When we mostly hear about high payment of salary , people mostly don't consider other criteria, especially in Nigeria,we are just focused on high salary that would pay our bills,you can't blame us,bills are so overwhelming but nevertheless they are some criteria that should be considered before bargaining salary,the distance,the time consumption and so on. A job should not be considered just bcos of the amount to be paid at the month end but some opportunities or inconveniences that's also comes from it.
There when I just got to my elder sister place,so I needed a job , she was teaching at the moment then and advice I go into teaching too since I still want to go to school,that will make me not loose focus on my ambition, she didn't want me to teach at the same place with her ,she complains their salary is low and she do hears some teachers earns twice or more than what she gets ,that I should go to others school that pay well.
I submitted my CV in different school ,I was interviewed by some that day and some the next day, to cut the story short. The price they all accepted to pay was higher than my sis pay that her certificate is even higher than her but it's a No for me, why??? I realized this people owes their staff salaries of two months,some say they receive their salary as if they are into contributions, meaning they pay them in but by bit,that's not more a salary 😂. When My sis first hear about the salary,she was like she will quit her place and come summit her CV there too .
I told her reason she shouldn't leave her working place then,
1.Her boss might pay little but he pays steady ,he has never ever given them a reason for a delay of salaries.
2. She was a nursing mother then,and her boss gives her day off anytime she requested for one, anytime,any day.
3. Her boss always engage them in a seminar, trainings which has made her more good in teaching and her understanding,that's I have always admire.
4. All extra lessons fees paid by the students belongs to their teacher,no matter how many,the school don't take from it. She has peace of mind teaching there. He has once render financial assistance to my sis when things were hard for her then and she needs to take her baby for clinic. What's fascinating is that he didn't deduct it from her salary at the end of the month.
These factors other schools that claims to pay tripple of her salaries can't give. Their teachers are not even allowed to come with their infants to school, a day off means you are sacked, daily corporate outfit and activities clothes cost more than their salaries,no any excuses are acceptable.
She agreed with me that all I said was true and she continue her job.
We have to always look beyond salary when choosing a job, peace of mind matters as well.
