Leaders are leaders because they have some super qualities to support the team and take them in the right direction. There are several ways in which a leader can express their best qualities. In this article, we are going to see some good qualities that every leader should learn to bring more productivity to their team. Some leaders might already know this but there is nothing wrong in recollecting them because it is a tendency for humans to forget things easily.
Leadership is not about one-way communication. There will always be people who will have some great thoughts and ideas. It is important to respect everyone's thoughts and ideas and let others talk. Some people might have a quality where they talk a lot and never let others talk. This way it becomes just a one-person communication and it will not be good. A leader should let others talk and share their thoughts and ideas.
Credits are a big motivation and for some people that will only push them harder and bring more achievements. If someone is good at something, it is nice to appreciate that and if someone has done something extraordinary, it is important to give them the credit. Sometimes your contribution might have been more than your team's contribution but still, if you make your team the superheroes, they will start being more productive.
We cannot always be very successful. There will be moments when failures hit us. Sometimes failures hit people very hard making them fear taking the next move. It is important to accept failures. We all should know that it is part of the game. We should not hesitate to accept failures and start thinking about how things can be made better in the future and maybe also get some learning from previous failures.
This can sometimes be hard for some of the leaders. They want the output in the form of work but this will make us forget that we are also human being and everyone have good and bad times. I have seen some managers asking their team members to come to the office even if they are not feeling well. This would have never been the case if they had not been well. This is where Empathy is important. We have to try and understand everyone's situation and it might as well be good to think about what we would have done in such a situation.
We all make mistakes. Everyone make mistake and learn from that mistake. It is hard to keep going without doing any mistakes. Everyone should be treated the same and we should learn the art of forgiving our mistakes. Sometimes it can affect the project and company very badly but we should also think about the situation where the same associate would have made the company very proud of their productivity. Mistakes should be remembered but should be forgiven.
Blaming is not going to help anyone. Many people think that throwing the blame on others is the solution to the problem but it is not the case. It can sometimes backfire and spoil the relationship with that person. It is human nature that we want to throw the blame on others to safeguard ourselves but at the same time, we never think if it would help in any way. There are several ways to handle situations without playing the blame game.
If something terrible happens, the approach should always be solution oriented. There is no point in discussing the past again and again. If sometimes got messed up, there should be an immediate meeting. But not to discuss what has happened but to discuss how to fix things. Maybe when everything goes well and we are all cool again, there can be a lessons-learned session on a light note.
Sometimes it can be hard to extract work from others. Being a leader, it is going to be tough to explain this to people and make them be more productive. That is when data plays an important role. We can show data to people and let that data do the magic. Every week if the manager shares data with the team, they themselves will have a check on their progress and find ways to do things better. Having a personal conversation is not going to be very fruitful.

Great article. Well researched and well-written.
This rang so true with my experiences. It's everyone's fault but my own. Everyone wants to be the hero of their own story.
I will also add that a great leader needs to know when to take responsibility and when to have a firm hand. Listening to others is great, but you are the one responsible at the end of the day. A balance is needed, as with all things.
Thanks for sharing, and I hope you have a fantastic day. ๐
Not sure if I had mentioned this already in the post. My previous manager used to tell me that whenever something good happens give the credit to others. If something goes wrong, take the blame completely on you.
That's fantastic advice, I'm stealing that. ๐
Some valid points.... Although I think the hardest of them all would be the "admit mistakes" ๐ people don't love doing that ๐
Although it's the truth
Yeah it is hard to accept mistakes. We have to somehow cross that and start accepting mistakes. This will only increase our reputation in front of others and not spoil it.
You are absolutely right, there are certain qualities in a leader that make him a leader. What a leader needs is the advice of those who work with him. After seeing them too, it takes a decision of its own. Because sometimes a person is making a wrong decision, but when he consults someone, he speaks well, so the person stops his decision. Thanks for sharing this great and valuable article with us.
Every individual is good at something. Only when we hear it from others, we would be able to get their perspectives and make things work.
A leader should have strong listening skills, the leader should have strong patience. The leader should have strong speaking skills.
Yes patience and listening skills are the best qualities that support a leader to withstand mistakes from others and look for the right solution.
Namaste๐ @bala41288 bro , you are right bro about leadership skills and do does, (may be I am wrong) Some leaders are in hive community are specific community centric or blindly supporting his lovable one, forgot the leadership lesson by them, not all๐ . Happy to see that IU is growing and it has a leader like you and also credit goes to curators of IU and his hardwork.

Thanks for the nice comment. ๐ Leaders are usually just tools. All the hard working people make things happen.
These are great qualities that every leader should develop and have. Being a leader comes with huge responsibilities and it can sometimes become overwhelming that we forget what it means to be a leader. Convincing people to put in more work is always hard but I believe showing them the data will definitely help.
Yeah things can be a little tough for leaders at times. But there are always ways to solve it. Having full hopes on data is the biggest thing someone can do. ๐
Right. They say numbers don't lie so we can rely on them to tell the truth :)
I've been leading a team since day 1 of joining the workforce about 8 years ago. Of all the traits you've mentioned above, I can say that I've perfected each one of them except for one and it's a shame that it doesn't come naturally to me.
It's the empathy side that I'm lacking. Well, I haven't asked a sick employee to come report in the office but I've always been less understanding of their situation at times when productivity should be the top priority.
I'd always say at the back of my mind: "I've been sick worse than you are but I came to the office and finished what needs to be finished!" I've been recently pissed off at some of my team members who are too chill at work not knowing what they're going through. I'm well aware that this is an important aspect of leadership and that I should improve or I'll continue despising each unproductive person on my team.
Totally agreed with every single point, leadership is the ability to inspire and motivate others to take action, to achieve goals.
Yes that's right. Inspiring others and motivating them should be done on a regular basis to have the energy level of the team high.
The above mentioned qualities makes a good leadership. I so much love this point in particular ๐
We need to allow some time to say their mind.
I have seen some leaders pushing their ideologies and thoughts on others. Giving them the space required is very important.
Honestly. Is very important to allow others some space to air their opinion.
