The Day My Slippers Fell My Hand.

You know those kinds of moments that you will just want the ground to open and swallow you ,ehn….? That kind where your body is there, but your spirit has already traveled abroad before you lol… Yeah, I had one of those recently, and seriously I still cringe when I do think about it.

So I decided to go visit a friend at an eatery ,it was not anything too serious, just one of those casual link-ups where you go gist, eat, and catch up on life , yeah.. so I picked out something simple to wear, and then I reached for my gold slippers, so now normally, I had already noticed that the slippers had been doing somehow like one side was already giving signs that it wanted to cut, but I just waved it, i even told myself, “Abeg, nothing will happen jare. It is not like I’m going far.”

So off I went o, looking cute and very comfy, I successfully got to the meet-up spot without any wahala ,In fact, I was already thinking in my mind that maybe I had overreacted about the slipper earlier.
, so I sat down, we started talking and gisting, everything was going fine until I stood up.

My slippers cut, ewooooo …..Just like that.

At first, I was like maybe I can manage it, you know how you try to fix it small with your toe and act like nothing happened? Lol… but then my friend stood up and said, “Let us go get something from the counter.”

That was when I just looked at him and said, “ Guy My slippers don cut o.” And this guy, knowing fully well how dramatic he can be, started laughing,and not just ordinary small laugh o, this one was loud and with full body shaking, I was just standing there like, “God, why me?”

And he didn’t even stop there, he started saying things like, “You too dey buy fake things,” and “Who send you to wear slippers today?” I just stood there wishing I could just disappear, It was so embarrassing, especially because other people at the eatery were already looking at us, I was even pushing him to stop the laugh.

I tried to form strong face and laugh it off too, but deep down, I was crying inside, at that moment, see i honestly felt like the ground should just open and swallow me, I was so uncomfortable, I couldn’t even concentrate again on the talk.

So eventually, when it was time to go home, I had to look for super glue and try to patch the slippers together,imagine me bending by the roadside trying to glue my slippers so I could walk home in peace, Omo. …Na that day I just knew that humility comes in different forms.

Since that day, anytime I’m picking slippers or shoes to wear, I now check it like ten times, because once bitten, twice shy, that experience was not funny at all even though now when I remember it, I just shake my head and laugh small.

But that day…. Hmm... it did cringed me so bad.
