What I Expect For My Country In 2026

As citizens, we all have expectations from the government to provide at least the basic needs for It's citizens but unfortunately, this politician forgets all their promises when they're financially elected, leaving the citizens dejected. They totally forget about the same people who put them in office and just continue their lives like nothing else matter. This week, @hiveghana prompted us to mention three things we expect the government to do for the country this year. Follow along with me as I state the three expectations for my country and the reasons behind it.

The first thing I expect for my country, which is the right of every citizen, is Healthcare. We all know how important healthcare service is because it's life related. Sad to say, we lack proper healthcare centers in Nigeria with many not properly functional, and the government hasn't been able to do anything to address the situation. Just a few weeks ago, there was a strike, and doctors and nurses wouldn't attend to sick ones, even those with emergency situations, because the government wasn't complying with their demands. Lots of lives were lost due to the situation, and many families were broken and shattered.

Situations like this shouldn't occur in this era of technological advancements. The government should provide basic healthcare centers with qualified doctors and nurses to handle patients.

In most cases, those who can afford traveling abroad go to other countries like #india for surgeries because they don't trust the capability of our local doctors. The average and poor Nigerians accept whatever they see since they can afford flying abroad for treatment.

The government owe it to it's citizens to provide good working healthcare centers with amenities so the doctors and nurses can carry out their jobs efficiently.

The second is food and employment. Affordable food is very vital in every nation because food is required for survival. Nobody can do without food, and it's worse when the food isn't easily accessible. Food is so expensive in my country that all your earnings can go in purchases of food alone.

A hungry man is an angry man is a popular statement we all use, which connotes the importance of food. The government should make food affordable and accessible for its citizens. People shouldn't go hungry, beg for food, or use all their earnings for food alone.

We also have a high rate of unemployment in my country. How can a citizen meet up with bills, payment, food, and other utility bills when they are unemployed?

This is the reason why there are so many criminals and scammers looking for an easy way to make money and defrauding others because they are jobless. If these ones are engaged in doing something meaningful, they would have less time thinking about fraudulent activities.

My third expectation for my country is security. The country has failed woefully when it comes to security. There's a high rate of kidnapping and killing presently in my country, especially in the northern region. There are some parts I can't visit in my country because of fear for my life. Local farmers are scared to go to farms because their life is not safe, yes, it has gotten to that point.

This shouldn't be the situation of anyone in the country, and the government should look into the matter very fast so as to put a stop to the killings and insecurity that has plunged the country.

This is my first time participating in this community and be sure to see more of me. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

It’s sad that healthcare is even part of this list. It’s so sad because it’s 2026 and still people have to travel miles just to give birth, just to have access to health services. It’s sad.

It's really sad but that's the reality in my country. Even the leaders fly abroad for treatment.

Sadly, when people expect the government to do something that governments are not set up to do, the people end up getting squashed. There have been hundreds of millions of people who died miserably this last century because they pinned their hopes on the government. I live in the US. We have quality health care here because the private sector figured out how to provide care. As the government gets involved, the quality goes down. I can show why this happens with as mathematical model. It involves math. People prefer crying to government to addressing fundamental issues

It's good that you have a good health care facility. We have private hospitals here too but they are very expensive and unaffordable for the average person.

It's an interesting perspective, as well as a worrying preview of the path England is rapidly heading down.

It occurs top me that the three things are linked. If the government somehow found the money to properly educate more quality doctors and nurses, that would be a start. More students means less unemployment, if they are getting qualifications that lead to worthwhile jobs.

With investment in healthcare facilities and newly trained medical staff (plus a Malaysian-style contract so they had to do a few years in government employment before going abroad !), you give people worthwhile jobs, and you create people who are healthy. If some of those healthy people can be trained to be farmers, then people will be healthy and not hungry. Well fed healthy people with quality jobs don't become criminals and terrorists, which helps the security situation. But I appreciate this is totally simplified and idealised, as well as relying on having a benevolent government which can control corruption to find the funding !

Hard to believe. The almighty England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇬🇧

The government in my country is very corrupt. I feel they kind of gain somehow from all the uproar in the country, that's why they aren't doing anything.

I think the Malaysian contract should be great if implemented because most of this doctors run abroad for higher pay jobs in dollars 💸 because our currency no longer has value.

The country will definitely be better with healthy people.
