The Power of living an exemplary life

One thing I never understood as a child was why my mom never advised me. I always thought she saw me as the golden obedient child even though I was very stubborn. But today, I found out the reverse was the case. She was talking about advice today and I asked why she never advised me and she said did.

I looked at her in a weird way and reminded her that she never sat me down to give me any piece of advice. She looked right back at me in a weird way as well and told me she didn’t have to open her mouth to say certain things. She showed me and that’s the best way to raise kids or lead people. The moment she said that I recalled so many things my mom used to do when I was a kid.

My mom always came back home on time no matter where she went. I remember days when she would take us by surprise and even come home earlier as compared to the normal time we knew. And just like that no matter where we went, we would also find ourselves coming back home on time.

Oh and doing dishes. In my house, there’s this unsaid rule where everyone washes their dishes right after eating. You’ll never see dirty dishes in the sink. For as long as I can remember, that sink is always clean. And this is something we saw my parents do. My dad especially would always walk to the kitchen to wash his dishes himself. He never sent anyone to do that for him. And that’s how we learned to do our dishes ourselves. All other things I am are things I saw my mom do. Be it smiling or laughing or being optimistic.

I also grew up seeing my parent’s room always clean. Every time I went into that room, her bed was always made and everywhere always looked so tidy. Nobody told me anything and I don’t know when it started by I began keeping my room as tidy as that of my mom and dad’s. If I remember clearly, there were times I would even go to her room to compare how she made her bed and do the same to mine.

Something that I’ve realized from the human behavior is how people don’t read or listen. You can talk from morning till evening and they still won’t mind you. Today, I learned that the most effective way to lead people is by doing what you want them to do. They’ll naturally pick it up and start doing them. I even heard today that sometimes people naturally rebel against the instructions they hear just for whatever reasons but it changes when they see their leader doing what he asked them to do. Whatever you want people to do under your leadership as a person, just begin doing it.

Children should be given such an environment. They should know what is good for us and what is wrong for our future life. Your mother has also taught you many special things and you are at this point today because of her.
