The December Magic

Last year December was when I got to know that having fun is actually a full time job. I told my dad how boring my Decembers are because I’m always in bed, watching people have fun through their status updates. Naa, I’m not an indoor person, I just hate the traffic stress that comes with Christmas.

When he found out that I have been deliberately having boring Christmas, he put everything on his December calendar on hold and decided to spend it with me. You see the pain you feel in your body the following morning after working out the previous night? That was what I felt the first day.

Normally, he have really important things to do during Christmas due to his work but he accepted every private concert invitation he got that month. I even got to find out he was friends with one of the biggest highlife artists in Ghana. When that artist also found out I said I have been having boring Christmas over the years, he made me follow him to each one of his concerts.

I had so much fun moving from one concert to the other and receiving VIP treatment. I met a lot of people that Christmas. Come to think of it, why didn’t I even use style to get a boyfriend in the end?

One of my favourite things that December was the night rides with my dad. We made it a point not to be at home any day for the Christmas week. So on days we were all too tired to go out to have fun, we went on night rides and then he would tell me the wildest stories and funny things he did during his youth.

The funniest moment that Christmas was when I tasted red wine for the first time. My dad told me it was nice and I believed. I kept on grimacing throughout the whole night because the bitterness I tasted on my tongue was on another level.

As someone who finds it hard to remember what happened hours ago, it’s surprising how the memories of that Christmas is securedly stored in my mind. It was, if not the best, one of the best Decembers in Ghana with my dad I have ever experienced.

When my dad promised me a fun Christmas, I didn’t think it was going to be that extra fun. I still don’t know where he got so much energy to do all that he did. It was just too much for me at a point. Oh and I actually fell ill right after Christmas and it felt like my body telling me to rest. Anyway, it’s a new year and a new Christmas, so we go again!!!
