Love Always Wins

I went for a wedding today and while at the ceremony, all I could do was smile while remembering what the couple have been through all these years. They started dating in 2018 and oh boy! It was a roller coaster. Somewhere in 2022, I even thought they were going to break up but they surprised us all.

Anyway, I was actually very sleepy and tired but because of my relationship with the bride, I just had to be present. The bride was my friend in university and invited me weeks before the wedding and I gave her my word that I was going to be there. So when I woke up this morning with one eye, I tried my best to stand and walk like a normal non tired person just to honor my word.

Something I love to do is to look nice for such occasions because you never know where you’ll meet your soulmate. And when I talk about soulmate, I’m not even talking about what you are thinking. Aside from soulmate, you never even know who you’ll meet, so you always have to look your best and all that.

So I asked my friends if I should put on heels and they said yes. But deep down, I knew I would be so tired that heels won’t be able to carry my weight. After thousands of recommendations from my friends, I still went in sandals because that’s what I felt comfortable wearing.

Looks like I’m beating around the bush too much. Let’s hit the road. So as I kept thinking about all that they went through, it also dawned on me that I’ve been present since the beginning of the relationship and was now actually witnessing a lifetime commitment between these two people. Awww such a honor!

Whenever I talk about marriage, I make jokes about how you’ll actually be with someone and none of you will go home. You see how when you visit someone, you always go to your house in the evening? I mean… even if you don’t go home in the evening, you’ll still go home. But this time, there’s nothing like going home. You two will actually be together till whenever, and there’s nothing like “I’m going home.” Isn’t that scary?

Okay, enough of my unpopular opinions. So when I thought about the fact that I was actually witnessing two people making a lifetime commitment, I just forgot about how tired I was and decided to stay in the moment just for the sake of my girl. I also thought about the kind of challenges they’ve fought all this time from 2018 before getting here.

In the end, I concluded that you know what? Love is and will always be a beautiful thing. And it always wins as well. Because 2018 to 2015! That’s how many years? And these two people actually made it. Ladies and gentlemen, that’s the power of love.
