Today, I heard something so wise that I couldn’t keep it to myself. It’s no news that I’m not a huge X fan. In fact, I still don’t even know how the app works. I have an account, but it’s just there.
So today, someone sent me a link, and I realized it was for a video on X where an influencer was speaking about something that has been going on for a while. She was talking about how people approach her to say how much they admire her and how others say they look at her and feel like they’ve failed in life.
First of all, I won’t even lie to you, I laughed when I heard that people look at her to say they’ve failed in life. And all that is because she has her own apartment? Her own car? It makes you feel you’ve failed? Just because you are her agemate? Can we be serious?
Anyway, the one that did it for me was when she said there were even 22-year-olds saying they’ve also failed in life. 22? What at all would make a 22 year old think they’ve failed in life? It’s actually funny for me.
Anyway, what I really wanted to talk about is what she said about herself. According to her, she started her very first business, which was a delivery service business, with a motorbike that was handed to her by her big brother. Emphasis on "handed to her".
After she got a little money, she ventured into a haircare business and now she’s thriving. She has a shop now but she doesn’t pay rent. The shop was also handed to her. Take note of the second "handed to her".
If you analyze her story, you can clearly see that she got enough push from her family. She has a supportive family who have been laying the foundation for her since the beginning. So with this person, it’ll be so easy to go forward. Those who think they've failed in life just because they are the same age as her probably don't even have supportive friends or family and have been doing everything by themselves from day one.
That’s why you can’t just look at someone’s life on social media and conclude you are doing bad in life or you’ve failed. You started at round 0, yet you want to compete with someone who started at round 4. No no, don’t do that. Just focus on your own journey and what is ahead of you, not someone else’s.

Sadly, that’s how we are wired. We like and enjoy comparing ourselves with others thinking we are the same or something. Like the illustration our older ones use, all our five fingers are not the same and that way, every human on earth has their own time to shine and also be at their lowest point.
I still find myself in this boat but I quickly get it off my head because I know what that is going to make me feel like - less of myself.

@hopestylist here!
Ohhhh yes! Not all fingers are equal. And I’m glad you are able to quickly get yourself out of that place. It’s not a good place to be at all.
Sending you an Ecency vote! 👍😊✨
