Coffee Beans... (Failed Attempt?) 🤎

Recently, I've been into brewing coffee at home... and I've been trying out various coffee beans. It has been very fun, so far. :)

This time, I attempted to do a realistic drawing of coffee beans... but since it's a first, I think it's quite a fail. I'd still be sharing it here anyway.

For this artwork, I initially used acrylic paint, but it didn't work well... so I switched to colored pencils. Allow me to show you the process I did. :)

On an A5 sketchpad, I did a pencil sketch of how I want my coffee beans to look.

These were all the shades of brown I have, and they're just not working... So, I decided to use colored pencils. But instead of starting from scratch, I decided to continue and just color over the markers. The markers would now serve as a base.

I did the first bean, and it's much better than the previous one. You can see the comparison in colors, right? XD

Both of the beans are now covered with various shades of brown using my colored pencils... However, I love roasted coffee beans, so I thought, why not make them roasted coffee beans instead?

At first, I was debating whether to use a gel pen or a black colored pencil... and I'm somehow glad I chose the latter. It may not look that good, but using a gel pen could have been worse.

Then, below them, I added a shadow for a more 3D effect. And comparing it to the previous photo, it did add depth to the artwork.

Next thing I thought of was highlights... I want to give it a certain glow in some parts, but since I started with acrylic paint and covered it with colored pencil, it would be challenging to add highlights other than using a gel pen. But, here's a problem...

My white gel pen sucks. hahaha It didn't have an effect at all... but I'm also scared to use white ink or white acrylic paint because the contrast would be too much. That's why I settled for this.

I just added my signature and the date beside it and called it a day. hahaha Somehow, it does look like roasted coffee beans... but on another note, it also looks like a deflated football. hahaha

Yes, I'm roasting my own artwork! (Pun intended)

Oh well, it's just the first attempt... I'll try to practice more in the coming days. Thanks for checking this out... see you around! (^^,)/

I liked your drawing. Remember that art isn't perfect, and drawing new things is really tough at first. Persisting and never giving up are key. If you draw still life, you can place a lamp closer to the subject you're drawing—this will help you appreciate more contrasts between light and shadow, which will enrich your work. Thanks for drawing the yummy coffee 🎨👏

Me gustó tu dibujo.
