Money doesn't change people, it just shows their true colors.

Sometimes I like to write thoughtful posts, so if you don't feel like it, you'd better stop reading now.

I was having a beer with some friends at a beach bar the other day, and one of those often-talked-about topics came up: Money changes people.

The truth is, these kinds of topics always get a lot of play and are hotly debated. It seems like many people want to impose their opinions rather than find common ground.
For my part, I'll just make a brief reflection, which is entirely my own and based on my life experience. I don't think money changes people, not at least not deeply. I think it actually brings out their true personalities. We live in a harsh and cruel world that forces us to be at the mercy of others most of the time. So we create an image so we won't be punished for our true thoughts. We don't show our true opinions, or if we do, we nuance them. We don't tell a boss he's wrong because we want to keep our job, or a friend that her new boyfriend is a total jerk.
But what happens when we suddenly have a lot of money? Well, it creates a new freedom in us. Not in all areas, but in many, and then we start saying what we really think. And what we think, whether good or bad, is clear that other people won't like it because we no longer speak with their reaction in mind.
So we could say that money makes people more honest, and as my grandmother used to say, "Honesty is dangerous, my dear."
