Beneficial animals for the garden, Wolf Spider

I have talked and will continue to do so in a section of the blog about animals that are harmful to the garden, but there are also many animals that are beneficial to the garden. These are the predators that help us control pests in the most efficient and clean way possible. Our job will be to attract them and respect them so that they can help us get the best harvests.

Wolf spiders are one of the spiders I like most in the garden, and I always take care of them, especially when they're laying eggs. They're absolutely harmless to us, and their bite is very mild, so you shouldn't touch them in case you have an allergic reaction. The pain isn't pleasant either.

It's really hard to get a bite; you have to disturb them a lot, since they're just going about their business. They're called wolf spiders, but they should really be called tiger spiders, since they hunt alone, not in groups like wolves. They're fantastic predators that hunt by lying in wait. Because of their small size, they usually attack garden pests, although they don't discriminate and also hunt beneficial insects like bees and hoverflies.

They live in the ground, between cracks and small holes, especially in rocky areas, and they hunt plants, in our case, vegetables. They're easy to see on the underside of leaves or under flowers.
