Finding strength in weakness.

(edited)

Lara has always been a delicate soul, a heart so beautiful and gentle that it can be easily broken like a whispered sign; a just gentle and soft-spoken word can shatter the calm.

Even as a child growing up, Lara has always been a very sensitive soul who feels things intensely and deeply; that's why her parents would always be mindful of the kind of words they say to her in order not to hurt her feelings. Her parents would ensure to handle her with child gloves and try to protect her from the harsh realities of the world out there. But then a child won't be a child forever.

Lara's heart had been shattered into a thousand pieces; she had been through so much, ranging from her parent's divorce and her messy breakup, thereby leaving her with a heart full of depression and isolation from people.

"I can't believe the thoughts of him are living rent-free in my head, occupying the space it shouldn't. I can still remember those words he uttered, the harshness that accompanied them." Lara laments as she explains to her friend Sophie.

"It's high time you let go of those words; you've been holding on tight to those words like it happened yesterday, forgetting that three have flown by already," Sophie said, trying to lift Lara from the mood she was in.

"How can I forget words like that? Aren't I human enough to be treated like one? Aren't I?" Lara replies with anger in her voice.

" some things are better left letting go, so you won't hurt yourself, and also, letting go opens up new doors of opportunities now that's what you need," Sophie said in a soft tone, trying to lighten Lara's mood.

"Okay, I've heard you, madam. I will try to let go of those hurtful words he said to me, but then you know how hurt I get easily with words, especially when it comes from a close person," Lara mumbled in a low tone, feeling all sober.

"I know those words took a toll on your heart and burst it into tiny pieces that can't be placed back together, but don't worry, I've got some holding glue to help with that," Sophie said, trying to put a smile on Lara's face.

Lara couldn't let go of those thoughts as the memories of those amazing moments spent with her lover started flooding her mind. Those moments felt like they would last forever, she could see herself smiling whenever those thoughts glance through her head.

Lara lived in her thoughts till one fateful day when she decided to give life another chance; letting go of the past wasn't an easy thing to do, but then the future holds a sense of perfection. Lara started to venture into the world again and form new connections when she met Jason, who possessed the physical qualities she admired in a man.

But those qualities don't define the personalities of a person, now that part scared her, so she became afraid of getting her innocent heart into the journey of hurt again. She didn't want to conclude things by assumption, so she decided to get to know Jason more.

As time went on, the two embarked on a journey of learning and getting to know each other better; in the process, Lara got more drawn to him; the first thing she noticed about him was his warm smile and how he would always wink his eyes at her when she is at a distance spot. Immediately, she would feel this blush that made her cheeks change color.

Lara started feeling her fragile heart beating again for someone; she was so scared of giving her heart out; the only thing she could think of was, "What if he breaks it again?" and What if things go astray?" These questions keep popping up as Lara tries to define her feelings for Jason.

As days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, Lara started feeling a sense of belonging around Jason, she felt seen and heard in a way she hadn't felt before, Jason was a good listener, he would listen to everything Lara had to say without responding with words or actions that would hurt her feelings.

Jason learned to understand Lara's fragile heart and how to treat it; he knows Lara's heart longs for love but is threatened by past experiences. He knows Lara's heart is afraid to trust because of its fallibility. He ensured to provide that safe space that is needed to safeguard her heart.

As time went on, Lara realized Jason was different; he was kind and loving, and in all, he possessed this patient heart that he didn't push her into revealing too much about herself; he was comfortable with the level of communication that was being held without demanding extra.

After a while of communicating with Jason, Lara found herself falling deeply in love with Jason. But then she didn't want to run faster than her shadow. Rather, she decided to take things slow with Jason and see where it led. Luckily, Jason was okay with Lara's decision, and they continued to communicate, taking things one step at a time.

When I was younger, I preferred being flogged or punished than throwing harsh words at me, those words would linger for a long time "living rent free in my head" ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜.
I enjoyed reading.
