Waste Not : Leftover Stew Saved The Evening.

You know when hunger is holding your neck and you are just not in the mood to cook anything that is serious?yeah... That was me one Tuesday evening like that, I had come back home from school tired and stressed, as soon as I entered the kitchen,I opened the pot and saw just one tiny corner of stew left in the pot, I am talking about stew that was holding onto the pot like it was scared to let go.lol..

So as I just stood there looking at it like, “Na you go save me today o?”

So normally, I would have just hissed and find something else to eat maybe bread with groundnut or maybe just fry eggs, but that evening, I was not about to let that stew go to waste, Something in me just said, “Make this thing work out na.”

So I opened the cupboard and scanned around like a detective, since there was no meat , no fish, but I saw half an onion, some pepper, and that sachet tomato that I had folded and kept since four days ago, I smiled a bit . “Okay., We fit run something! .” I said.

I poured the small stew into a pan, added a little water, squeezed in the remaining tomato, and sliced the onion like I was on a cooking show, The pepper joined too, I threw in seasoning and salt, then turned on the gas.

Then my younger cousin walked into the kitchen and looked inside the pot, “You dey cook again? I thought stew is finished?,” she said, raising her brow.

I laughed. “No na that leftover stew be this, I want to do a remix , so don’t doubt me.”

As the stew started to boil, the aroma started filling the whole kitchen, You know that smell that makes you forget your stress? that’s what I was working with, this life needs sense abeg. I said.

By the time I was done, the whole thing looked like something from a food blog. My cousin was even surprised. “Wait, na the same small stew I see earlier be this?”

“Yes o,” I said, you see that it's good to have sense instead of doing waste waste,if it was you now you will wash it out , you see miracle food . I grinned.

Then it was done , we both sat down and ate quietly, you know that kind of quiet when food is too sweet and nobody wants to talk too much lol? That was it yeah, And I could not stop thinking about how I almost threw that stew away earlier before.

That day taught me something, Sometimes it is not about how much you have, but what you can do with the little you have got, People waste food every day, and forget that even leftover stew has potential, lol.

Now anytime I see small food left, I always pause and think , I ask myself, “What can I turn this into?” Because truly, if you waste not, you want not.

That's it. Sometimes we don't know that those little things we might have wasted would end up helping us.

Yes, even leftover food has potential. Lol..

Is it important to improvise, be it a little or a lot? Wasting never adds, it deducts.
