Daniel had recently arrived in Venezuela and decided to visit his aunt in the Valles del Tuy, an area near the city of Caracas.
When he arrived at the house, he greeted and hugged his uncles and cousins, since he had not seen them for a long time, and he was very happy to see how happy and excited they were in the house, since they were preparing for a traditional celebration of the city that was celebrated on the day of Corpus Christi and is called the Diablos Danzantes de Yare, which is a very important celebration for them and in addition to that he added to the joy of his visit to the house.
Daniel was fascinated to see the masks, which his uncle and cousins were going to use as dancers during the party.
When he got into conversation with his cousins about the holiday, he learned that his cousins firmly believed in the tradition and considered it sacred and true, and he couldn't help but tease them. He thought it was all just meaningless religious superstition.
His cousins, annoyed by his dismissive attitude, decided to confront him and told Daniel that his time away from Venezuela had caused him to lose his roots and his culture.
After that, they explained to him that the festival of the Dancing Devils of Yare was much more than a simple tradition, since it was the representation of a battle between good and evil at a cosmological level and that is why it was celebrated on the date of Corpus Christi, as a way of reaffirming faith and the triumph of light over darkness, in all areas.
Intrigued and challenged by his cousins' conviction, Daniel decided to accept their invitation to attend the traditional dance the next day, and after a joyful family gathering, they all went to bed early, to be ready for the festivity.
When Daniel was fast asleep, he was haunted by a terrifying nightmare, which made him sweat and shiver like a baby. In his dream, he was surrounded by demons that surrounded him, screamed at him, whispered strange phrases and he witnessed, as he was carried and pushed by the demons, the horror of hell.
Daniel. He felt the demons grab his legs and tear his arms in his sleep, he felt fear invade every pore and cell of his body and felt his sweat soak the bed as he struggled to wake up, unable to do so, as a demon, whom he called the greater demon, held him down and would not let him wake up, but rather subdued him and put him at the disposal of the lesser demons.
Already, when it seemed that the demons were going to drag Daniel to the depths of the underworld, suddenly some drums began to be heard resounding in his dream.
But in the dream, the greater demon, as well as the other demons and Daniel himself, turned to where the sound of the drums was coming from.
That gave Daniel a terrible fear, since at that moment, he did not know if what he was experiencing was a dream or something real, and within himself he felt a terrible fear and terror, and when he felt that, he saw how the image of the greater demon, which he now believed to be the devil, became bigger and stronger, which terrified Daniel much more.
However, the drums were still beating in the dream, and now the devil was seen to be uncomfortable at times, and the sound was getting louder and louder, as he turned to where the sound was coming from and both the devil and Daniel saw several men appear dressed in the masks of the Dancing Devils, dancing and singing.
As the dancers approached Daniel in his dream, the lesser demons, visibly frightened of the dancers' path, moved away.
In a moment of distress, the devil lifted Daniel by the neck, and as the devil was about to choke him and throw him into the pit of hell, the dancers surrounded the demon and began to sing and play their maracas and drums in fury.
As they did so, the devil began to shudder and feel pain, because these sacred sounds, together with the singing and dancing, produced unbearable pain to the devil, who finally let go of Daniel in the midst of the agony they were causing him.
At that instant, Daniel's aunt shook him tenderly to wake him up. The young man, dazed and terrified, jumped out of bed, screaming in fear and discomfort. His aunt, worried, asked him what had happened to him and he, still trembling, told her about his nightmare.
After the whole family woke up and had a comforting breakfast, they all went to the festival of the Diablos Danzantes de Yare.
Daniel walked the entire dance route with his family and friends, watching the dances, listening to the drums, the maracas and the lyrics of the songs, which were the same as in his dream, which terrified him a lot, since it was the first time he was in that festivity.
Daniel was amazed to see the devotion and fervor of all those present, who exuded an air of unity with all the participants and dancers of the tradition.
After that day, Daniel stopped having nightmares and bad dreams, and that led him to study and appreciate the folklore and traditions of his country.
This led him to understand that all traditions have a deep meaning and beauty that cannot be ignored, and that they are the basis of the popular culture of countries and regions.
In addition, he learned to respect and value the beliefs of others, because he never knew if behind them, there was a powerful secret capable of awakening the darkest fears that could be imagined.

Hello @theinkwell, happy Monday.
I already changed the image.
I put that image that you asked me to remove, because I searched for images without copyright in the search engine and that image appeared.
Sorry for the mistake.
Greetings.
It was such an interesting read. The dream Daniel had was to teach him how to value his culture. Indeed, every culture is unique and must be respected.
Hi @iskawrites, I'm glad you liked the story.
Yes we should respect all cultures, since none is better than another, because each one comes from its own cultural background.
Thank you for your comment.
This is a very compelling story, @osomar357. It is very well told, and you did a great job of building suspense. The dream within the story serves an excellent purpose, creating terror that is fortunately not played out in real life, but helps to deepen Daniel's respect for tradition and lore.

Hello @theinkwell, happy evening.
I'm glad you liked the text, I actually wanted to put it together before the last day, but I was pressed for time.
Sorry about the image, I'll try not to let it happen anymore.
Best wishes and thanks for the comment.
I really enjoyed your story, @osomar357. It has some very creepy and frightening elements, but does not cross the line into violence or gore that so many horror stories seem to do. You created suspense and fear, but ended the story very nicely in the "real world" where Daniel is safe among his family and friends.
Hello, happy evening @jayna.
Thanks for the comment.
You know when I do the stories, I always try to leave something, happy and positive in them.
Sometimes it costs me a little, but whenever I get stuck looking for an ending, I tell myself, "The world is very hard for many people, so instead of entrenching that thought with a gloomy or hopeless ending, look for something that gives hope, or a teaching" or something like that, the important thing for me is that people enjoy what I write and that there is always a message at the end.
Although there are times when I don't achieve it.
Best wishes.
That is an admirable goal, @osomar357. For me, as a reader, I look for an ending that is satisfying and makes the story worth reading, even if it is not a happy ending. When the story is both satisfying and happy at the end, that’s a double bonus. 😁
It was a pleasure to read this, especially as there are important lessons within. Even though there were barely any dialogues, I think it's an interesting story. Plaudits!
Hi @uchelee , thanks so much for the comment, I'm so glad you liked the story.
Best wishes.
