Who do we blame the issues of unemployment in the country on?
'Take your education very seriously, it is the key to success without which you cannot earn a living, my parents would always say. They would spank us if we ever returned with bad results but now I acquired education with excellent results yet nothing to show for it.
An electrical engineering graduate repairing radios in his hometown after several fruitless journeys of job hunting where they would request for experienced personnel but not ready to give the opportunity to gain the experience. And yes I had good grades, they would usually comment on the grades with promises to get back to me but they never did.
'There's something on ground'. This was my best friend Terry, we grew up together, went to the same school and studied the same thing. We also job hunted together looking out for each other if we heard of any opportunities.
But this was different......
'You know you are the most intelligent of us all and real good with all these appliances', he said
Alas something relating to what I studied, I was keen and listened attentively.
I know you are highly principled he continued, but I want you to consider our present condition, let it out increase your yearn for a different lifestyle.'
This wasn't new because Terry was aware of how much we strived to change our financial stands.
"Up with it" I said, my ears were seriously itchy to hear what he had but he kept going on and on.
'The thing is', he continued 'there's this house we need to break in, the man has loads of money, you don't need to come in with us, we only need your brains to draft a plan and ofcourse to manoveur the security camera's
'What, armed robbery, Terry armed robbery, I said out loud in shock.....
'Shhhhhh, reduce your voice, do you want to give me away? Terry said
I was so surprised at Terry, I didn't expect such from him. I didn't know my friend again cos this was definitely someone else speaking.
'Terry you want me to steal?, I asked
'You are not literally stealing, all you need do is temper with the camera, be our eyes, that's all.
I walked him out of my house and didn't speak to him for days. But it never kept ringing in my head. I really needed this money but I was so scared about the means. My mind hadn't been at rest since Terry's visit but seeing that life is a risk, I decided to take the bull by its horn. I met Terry that evening and told him I was in. He left me in on the rest of the team, the plan and where I was to fit in. As expected I made some adjustments on the plan, I mean that was what Terry actually wanted. And the D-day was here, I couldn't get a single sleep before then. We set out in a hired car, got to our location for the heist. Terry and 2 of the other guys jumped over the fence and held hostage the security guys. I followed thereafter, took charge of all security cameras and was doing my thing, when all of a sudden we heard the loud sound of the siren, we didn't need to be told as we immediately took to our heels flying in different directions. I don't know how the other guys did it but I got a really good hidden spot close to a flower stall. I mean nobody wanted to get caught especially with the fact that we couldn't achieve our mission. Driving just past my hidden spot was the general hospital's ambulance. Apparently they had come to pick up a patient in the estate. It wasn't the police as we presumed. Giving off a sigh of relief, I grabbed my bag and headed home before the actual police would get hold of me. This was the first and lasted time I would ever succumb to such a terrible decision as the adventure almost caused my heart to be ripped apart.

The End
Your story shares how people can be driven to desperation — even good, well-meaning people who get their education and attempt to find work to support them. The narrator learns his lesson, and fortunately is "scared straight," as the saying goes. We can only hope that there is work in his future and he won't succumb to such temptation again.
Thank you for sharing your story in The Ink Well, @merrymay22, and for supporting other community members by reading and commenting on their stories.
Good story, @merrymay22. We all face temptation in our lives at one point or another. The narrator of the story doesn't listen to his heart and falls prey to the allure of stolen money. The ambulance was a blessing in disguise!
One thing I noticed is this phrase: "all you need do is temper with the camera". I think you mean "all you need to do is tamper with the camera."

Temptation can be hard to resist, trust me, I know. It's clear the ambulance was a blessing. I look forward to reading more from you
