Gamal Abdel Nasser (25 Qirsh, 1970)

This is another coin I recently got for spot price:
Chances are that you are like me and can't make out the weird letters 🙃
It's a 25 commemorative qirsh coin (1970) from Egypt.
The weird letters translate to
United Arab Republic
25 Qirsh
1970 1390
As for the angry fella on the reverse, it's President Nasser.
I asked chatgpt to give me a really quick run down on him since I don't have much interest in the history of modern Egypt. This is what it came up with:
Gamal Abdel Nasser (1918–1970) was Egypt's second president, serving from 1956 until his death. A charismatic and transformative leader, Nasser emerged as a key figure in the Arab world following the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, which ended British influence and overthrew King Farouk. Nasser championed Arab nationalism and socialism, aiming to modernize Egypt and reduce inequality.
One of his defining moments was the nationalization of the Suez Canal in 1956, triggering the Suez Crisis and cementing his role as a symbol of resistance to Western imperialism.
Meh, anyways.
As you can see it's a pretty basic and simple coin. It's also quite small, at 6 g with a purity of .720. This gives us 4,32 grams of silver.
If memory serves me right, this is my third silver coin from Egypt.

Nasser was actually quite a figure in his time, and the Suez Canal Crisis was major. Even I, as a child, was aware of it. He had an idea of a kind of Pan-Arabism that posed a significant threat to Western dominance in that part of the world. Anyway, I remember that period clearly. Fascinating coin for someone of my generation. Really makes me feel old :)))
