Silver From Samoa, The Batman Batarangs, Silver Back Up to $77
Every now and again I like to sit down and watch some older movies I haven't seen in years. It's a lot of fun to re-watch these older flicks and find things I missed the first or second time I viewed them. Not too long ago I watched the first "Batman" movie made in 1989. It was the one that started all of the Gotham movies starring Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as The Joker. It's a true classic and had a seriously cool Batmoblile.
That got me thinking about a series of silver coins they have been producing in Samoa for several years now. I keep intending to purchase some of them to add to my silver stack, but just never quite getting around to it. Some other bill always seems to come up or there is another item that I would rather buy first. One of these days I will get some silver Batarangs!
My favorite they have produced is from the original 1989 movie. They produced these in uncolored silver and colorized. As a general rule I prefer my silver natural with no coloring, but I kind of dig the black versions on these things, they really are pretty awesome. This was minted in 2024 and only 5,000 were made. Of course they are sold out on the primary markets sites leaving eBay, there this one is running about $140:

Those are really cool, kind of expensive now on eBay, but it sure would be fun to own one!
The next one was produced by Samoa in 2022 styled after the Batarang in the film "The Dark Knight" from 2008. It starred Christian Bale as Batman and the late Heath Ledger as The Joker. A phenomenal movie if you haven't seen it. Once again the design on this coin is really cool, not quite as nice as the one above, but I would love to have one of these too! They only produced 5,000 of them and of course they are all sold out. On eBay they run about $115, which isn't too bad I suppose...

Now onto my least favorite of the bunch, produced last year in 2025. It was styled after the film "Batman vs Superman" starring Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman. I really didn't like this film, it was way too long and to be frank I never like Affleck as Batman. But they went ahead and made a silver Batarang coin based on this movie too. Check it out:

This one they only produced 3,000 of them and they are still for sale on APMEX for $99.99. They seem to be selling much slower than the others did, and it may be due to the film not being quite as good? Who knows? I would pass on this coin personally, I don't much like the design honestly. But it's still Batman related silver, and may gain quite a bit of value over time. Time will tell.
At some point I think I may add the first two to my collection. When? I'm not sure. But someday it will happen!
Silver
Silver once again is showing upward momentum on the charts. It's close to $78 and will likely push past $80 once again in the coming days. There is a massive supply shortage of the precious metal that has been made worse by China restricting it's export. That's a problem because they are the world's largest silver producer and also have the most refineries to produce it.
We are seeing an uptick in mining here in the US, but it takes years to get them up and running. Additional refineries will also be needed to meet demand, so this shortage won't end any time soon. By St. Patrick's day I think silver will be pushing past $100 per Troy ounce. Something I never thought would be possible in my lifetime!

Silver is a great investment, and it's not only for the rich. Everyone should have stash of the metal, even if you start small, at least you are starting!

I was never personally into those, but they are pretty. I go for coins, modern and vintage rounds, bars, and hand-poured for unusual shapes. I guess I am traditional in that sense.

I think the first one is my favorite. I really like the stamping on the back.
The Burton version is my favorite too, it's probably why it's the most expensive as well as everyone else likes it too!

That Affleck Batman film was a stinker. The bat design also isn't the greatest. At a distance, it would look like a solid black spot. I love the Keaton bat design the best. So stylish! But I may be biased since I love that movie.
The Affleck Batman was the worst by far. The design was last in the list for a reason, just ugly... The Keaton one is by far the best, but like you I am biased as I love the movie as well!
Those are all really cool, but I like the first one best. I remember watching the Batman series with Adam West playing Batman. Now that I see it now it was so corny, but as a kid back then it was cool.
Adam West's Batman may have been corny but it was fun to watch as a kid, I agree! The Tim Burton Batman version of the Batarang was the best by far, I would love to have love one!
