As strange as it may sound, something unanswered is very similar to something closed, inaccessible without outside help. LOL.

Often, a large and appetizing-looking walnut is encased in such a hard shell that neither a powerful beak nor attempts to crush it with your hands will help crack it. A hammer is needed.

In the case of unresolved issues, the hammer is often time, which you must wait for. For example, for some reason you can't yet verify or apply an interesting theory in practice, and this wait is as agonizing as trying to crack a hard nut.
