In search of honey Eldorado.
Many books have been written and many films have been shot about their dreams of gold miners during the gold rush.
Interesting stories about those times when people, overcoming titanic efforts and dangers, went to where the yellow metal was waiting for them, capable of changing their lives for the better, as they believed.
Some of them found gold veins and arranged mines there, and some wandered along the banks of rivers and washed gold sand, adding one grain to another, and some found nothing and returned home with nothing.
But they all dreamed of finding something that could be compared with the golden mythical city of Eldorado.
Those times have already sunk into oblivion, but there are those whose work is very similar to the work of gold miners and these are beekeepers.
Yes, there are many similarities, honey is yellow like gold, you need to find a good place to collect it, and even honey frames in their structure are a bit like a sieve used to wash gold sand.
Some beekeepers find excellent places for stationary apiaries that surround numerous flowering acacia forests and orchards.
And some of them want more and migrate from place to place, knowing that while somewhere the acacia is not yet blooming, to the south the acacia has already bloomed, this also applies to herbs.
Within the borders of one small country there can be several honeysicks from the same flowering crops, migrating from the south to the north.
Just as in the case of gold miners, gold buyers took advantage of the desperate situation of gold miners who needed provisions, equipment and other supplies, gold was bought for a pittance, so honey buyers today use the same levers of pressure on beekeepers.
You can often hear beekeepers complaining that wholesale prices for honey have fallen below the price of sugar and the only way for them to survive is to extract more honey.
Just as dishonest people tried to counterfeit gold, so with honey everything is not so simple and you need to be very vigilant so as not to get into a situation where you are sold fake, counterfeit honey that does not correspond to what was declared.
Just as not every gold miner is hired by the jewelry business, so not every beekeeper knows how to competently sell honey at retail in order to get the maximum profit from it and I have to learn this.
