The raccoons themselves do not think at all about the cleanliness of the products they rinse in water, they are unlikely to understand the difference between a clean and a dirty apple, since raccoons' taste buds, sense of smell and vision are poorly developed.

But this shortcoming is compensated by very sensitive fingertips, and by feeling the food, the raccoon understands what exactly it is tearing in its paws.

Because of running on the ground, the raccoon's sense of touch becomes rough and it needs to wet its paws in water to restore its sense of touch, which is why it seems to us that raccoons rinse their food.
