Business impact in the day job

There have been a lot of expectations recently in the day job. Most of the time the work that we do don't reach the right amount of people that we expect it to reach. Some people don't even know for whom they are working and what impact they are creating with the work they are doing. This is a problem with any type of job. For example, in a factory the workers might be cutting a diamond which is going to be sold in the market for a great price but imagine if the workers don't know the value of the work that they are doing and get low salaries for their work.

People benefiting from our work

Sometimes we might be creating something awesome and if that goes to the market and sold, there are people getting benefited out of it. In services, we will be able to see that evidently. But when it comes to tasks that are happening in the background, the workers will not know what goes to the clients and what they feel about the product. The impact from our work should be in such a way that it benefits the clients that we are serving and at the same time it should also benefit the company as well. This is something that is expected from every individual who is working in a job.

Metrics is always helpful

Whatever work we are doing, the upper management people love to see metrics of the business impact. If we say that the product that we created is being used by 3000+ customers, the number there is really attractive. This will also explain how much revenue the company can generate with that much amount of customers. This is one of the biggest business impact. If we are able to show the data in terms of numbers, it is also easily understandable by everyone both technical and non technical people.

We grow if the company grows

Every worker should understand this. The reason is because if we are going to be working on something that is not even going to be used by anyone, there is no point in spending the time and money there. Some developers are not aware of this. They tend to work on features that are not going to be used by a lot of people. If people don't use those features, they don't use the product much and ultimately the sales will go down and we will also find it hard to grow in the company.

Problem solving is a great approach

For someone who would like to do a good business impact, they can pick problems that the business is facing or the clients are facing and try to solve those problems. This way both the business as well as the clients get benefited. There can be challenges faced by many teams inside the organization. By providing a solution to those problems, there will be a great impact and revenue can increase for the company that will indirectly or directly benefit the employees of the company.
