What's up frens?!
In the past I have shared since crazy weapons developed in WWII, both by the axis and allies. Like the literal bat bomb and the pigeon guided bomb.
It just so fascinating what we humans can come up with in desperate times π
Today I have another fascinating concept that you have probably haven't heard, developed by the Brits in 1942.
The codename was...
Operation Vegetarian
Unlike other projects, this didn't involve the use of bombs but cakes! With a special ingredient inside. Anthrax!
So, the generic idea was to airdrop linseed cakes laced with anthrax spores over the German farms. Then the cattle would eat the contaminated food and get infected. Then the Germans would eat the cows and their milk and and... widespread illness would commence. Anthrax is not a fun disease in case you haven't heard. And those who would survive would starve due to food shortages π
The idea was even tested on the uninhabited Gruinard Island (wherever the fuck that is) and was so effective that it had to be quarantined for 50 years. Not only did all the sheep there die but somehow the disease carried to the mainland π
By 1944 Operation Vegetarian was ready to launched but fortunately was cancelled thanks to the success of Operation Overlord was the codename of the Battle of Normandy. Later next year all 5 five million anthrax cakes were incinerated and Operation Vegetarian was officially a thing of the past.
That's the super quick run down, here's a link to Wikipedia if you'd like to read all the semantics and logistics and stuff.
If reading isn't your think this is a decent video on the subject:
Ok frens, this is it for today!
Have a good one π

I had actually been told about this as a kid by my father. He was a big history guy and told me thd story.
Sounds like a cool and smart father π
Biological warfare, one worse than the other when it's war times... That would have devastated europe for real, I don't think Frenchies would have been happy with anthrax around
!PIZZA
In an alternate universe, Japan was scorched down to the last bit by bats and Europe ended up infested forever with anthrax. π
What does it mean, "bombs but with bombs but cakes"???
Stupid typo, forgot to fix. Thanks!
π
Weaponized anthrax, every terrorists dream come true. The scary thing is any nation could start a similar program and infect their enemies. And some of the strains today are much more deadly than those back in WWII.

Sounds like another premise for another action drama thriller movie script ... Contagion III, staring Dustin Hoffman, Tommy Lee Jones and Morgan Freeman dressed in Bio-hazard suits gazing upon the corpse of an escaped lab monkey lovingly embracing a dead dairy cow. "Gentlemen," says the Virologist Jones, "...this is not an accident."

Itβs something beyond imagination and the idea is wild, but it really shows how humans can come up with terrifying thoughts in times of crisis.
That sounds like a horrible thing to do, and I am glad they never went through with it. 50 years of quarantine? It sounds like a nightmare to deal with.
Damn, cold blooded. Good thing they didn't go through with it, as I am sure it would have spread beyond Germany. This kinda reminds me of the story about the Lone Star Ticks that bite you and make you allergic to eating meat, which I heard were genetically engineered... not sure if that is true, but it doesn't seem that far-fetched when you consider other plans like the one you discussed here.
Hmmm, another war tactics. At least it never hit the field, who knows how many innocent lives would have gone for this. Thanks for this update friend
