I live naked and barefooted, very close to Earth and Nature, in an 18-acre, off-grid, clothing-optional, food-forest intentional community (GaiaYoga Gardens), way out in the jungles of Lower Puna, far East Big Island, Hawai'i, and I have for more than 5 years now. Although there are many challenges, I love my life, and I'm immensely grateful to live where and how I do, on my own terms! I would not want to live any other way! πππβ‘π₯π₯β΄οΈβ³οΈβοΈπ£π±β¨π€
Warm greetings all! πππβ¨π€
As most of you have probably noticed by now, Hive Engine is not working properly, with all Hive-Engine nodes being around 19-20 hours behind as of this morning. It appears that this is an intentional attack on the network, as one account has been spamming transactions in such a way that it knocked all nodes out of sync. Blocks that normally take 3 seconds to process, are presently taking about a minute. A coding solution for this type of attack vector is in process, but there is no known ETA yet.
While this sort of problem is indeed frustrating and annoying, successful attacks on the network like this only highlight weak points of failure in the system, which is necessary for the the devs to be able to make it more resistant and resilient over time. So yeah, it sucks now, but it will make Hive stronger in the long run.
With how closely and frequently I manage my assets in layer 2, not seeing any transactions for 19 hours, and also not being able to do much of any token management at all, is a bit disconcerting and inconvenient, to say the least. Before Hive is adopted by millions or billions of people, attack vectors such as this must be nullified, and the all-too-common periodic node issues must indeed be resolved solidly well.
In the greater cryptosphere, Hive is still a fairly small Blockchain, with a lot fewer eyes on us, which is exactly why it's necessary to make our network as stable, dependable, reliable, resistant, and resilient as possible now, before any major influx people. Hive was born battle-tested with the hostile takeover of Steemit/STEEM and the subsequent hardfork, and it is far more resistant and resilient than ever, but there are still a few rough edges to smooth out.
With the extra time that would have usually gone to token management last night, I created an account on, and began exploring BULB (a platform built on the Solana blockchain) at the suggestion of @achim03, and the greater Solana ecosystem of which it is a part. I must say that the number of web3 platforms, based on this or that blockchain, has skyrocketed in only a few years, which is quite fascinating to see. Hive still strikes me as more decentralized and better, which I'm quite happy to notice. Hive does indeed still have its issues, but regardless of that it is still by far one of the best blockchains in the crypto world. I'll always be exploring other blockchain ecosystems, of course, but Hive is my home.
Yesterday, Tuesday, I left the Flow House, once I had finished up my Hive tasks, just a bit after 2PM, focusing my attention first on some photography for these posts. When I had a nice batch taken, I went to Tutu's to do the dry-goods order, and then I got my machete and collected a wheelbarrow full of assorted edible foliage for cow-milking food. With cow food done, I took a short token-management break up at the Flow House (which is when I noticed the state of Hive Engine and its nodes), and then I devoted a nice chunk of time to sifting soil in my old nursery, as I clear and prepare it to receive salvaged plants from my new nursery, which is sadly in disarray. I stopped just before sunset, and after a shower, and stopping by the Landing to make myself some food (mini spiced and seasoned beef patties, with cheese, and honey mustard), and to pick up my jar of leftover superfood fire coffee from the fridge, I returned to the Flow House, to dive into my evening Hive tasks, and to catch up on my notifications. I got everything done by around 10:30PM, and I ended up staying up a little too late, until just after 12:30PM, exploring BULB and the Solana ecosystem. I woke up a bit later than usual, just after 8AM, having slept pretty well, thankfully, and since I couldn't do any token management, I got out of bed to go make my superfood fire coffee, and to milk Daisy with Jo. When milking was done, I made my way back to the Flow House to write this post. It's now just before 12:30PM, so a fantastic time to end this post, so that I may get to my few other important Hive tasks, before preparing for my session with Riana at 1:30PM. I deeply appreciate y'all so very much! Until the next iteration of this post tomorrow! Always forward, onward, upward, and whaleward, ho, together we go! πππβ¨π€
1.) Do regular integral practices again, alone or with others.
2.) Prepare regular batches of my medicinal teas collected from the land again.
3.) Make my plant nursery, and the gardens, beautiful again.
4.) Begin learning relevant coding/programming languages to more fully contribute to the sovereignty-driven technologies where I am active, like Arch Linux, Hive, Qortal, DeSo, and Bastyon.

Thank you all so much who have helped me get to where I am today, and allowing me to share more of the beauty and magic from my life and my world with you, and for your continuous appreciation and support! I am truly deeply grateful! πππβ¨π€

It's definitely frustrating to deal with these kinds of issues, but you're right, identifying vulnerabilities is a crucial step in making the system stronger.

Thanks for sharing your post and information. For the technical part, I think @edgerik is right
You're most welcome, Nathalie! I figured that lots of people may not have heard about what happened, so I thought that it would be uaeful. Yep, exactly, this will only make Hive more unstoppable. πππβ¨π€
Yes you are right, not many people know it. So thanks for the post π

Thank you for this update. I hope all will be back as before -- no more backlogs. My rising star game seems affected too. Oh wow! I wish I were techie enough to explore more blockchains too. Do let me know if there's a platform like Hive out there. I may want to try it out too. π An advance happy weekend...

You're very welcome, @iamraincrystal, absolutely! I figured that it was useful information for people to know. The nodes have mostly caught up again, thankfully, with new new code added to help prevent this sort of attack again. Yes, I imagine that any site that depended on Hive Engine in some way would have been affected.
Honestly, pretty much all of the other blockchains where I have accounts also have lots of people who are not tech-savvy, so you shouldn't let that stop you from exploring. There are some blockchains and platforms that do indeed have similarities to Hive, though Hive is still overall better, in my opinion. If you'd like to try out one or two of the less-complex ones, let me know, and I'll be happy to introduce you!
Many thanks, Rosyel! I hope that you have a mellow, relaxed, and sweet weekend! πππβ¨π€
