I live naked and barefooted, very close to Earth and Nature, in an 18-acre, off-grid, clothing-optional, food-forest intentional community (GaiaYoga Gardens), way out in the jungles of Lower Puna, far East Big Island, Hawai'i, and I have for more than 7 years now. Although there are many challenges, I love my life, and I'm immensely grateful to live where and how I do, on my own terms! I would not want to live any other way! 😁🙏💚⚡💥🔥✴️✳️❇️👣🌱✨🤙

Warm greetings all! 😁🙏💚✨🤙

The rate at which I'm discovering, exploring, and implementing new, amazing FOSS (Free and Open-Source Software) frameworks, is really quite astounding. Some I've known about for a while, and am only just now looking at them more deeply, while others are completely new to me. One incredible FOSS project that I've loved and used in an indirect way (not hosting it myself) for years now, SearX, sadly came to an end, but it was very thankfully picked up by others to continue development, reincarnated as SearXNG, which like its predecessor, is an open-source, private, programmable meta-search engine that makes use of a huge array of possible search domains. It can also be run locally on a computer, which is something that I've wanted to do for quite a good while now. Last night, I made it happen.

While installing and setting up SearXNG is fairly straight forward, and not overly complex, the official method was a bit more involved than I had the time to implement quickly, so I held off. Until now that is. Last night I discovered a FOSS project, Pinokio, which creates a local framework that the allows for a wide variety of software to be easily installed and run as isolated applications, including SearXNG, for which I found and made quick use of the following very helpful links: https://pinokio.co/apps/github-com-cocktailpeanut-searxng-pinokio, https://github.com/cocktailpeanut/searxng.pinokio, and https://pinokio.co/posts/01kt4s6g6q3j040wbry1f0ac2f, which allowed me to get my own personal and local SearXNG instance up and running quite quickly.

What's even cooler than having my own personal and private SearXNG meta-search engine running locally on my laptop, which in and of itself is pretty fricking badass, is the fact that it's already natively suported in Hermes Agent, even with an in-built skill to use it, and all for free, so my agent can now easily search across a very diverse array of individual search domains on its own.

I can also easily set up my local SearXNG instance to be used as the default search provider in Vivaldi browser, which allows for a far greater degree of information privacy, as nothing on my laptop is visible to third-party search providers. Brilliant. One other nifty thing that I can do is to make the SearXNG instance that's on my laptop available on my network, either directly or via Tailscale, which I successfully tested last night on my phone. That's seriously incredible.

The thing about external search providers, like Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Startpage, Presearch, and all others, is that no matter how secure and private that they say that their search engines are, we basically have to just trust what they say, since we don't have access or control of their systems. That's why running a local meta-search engine like SearXNG is so revolutionary, because it gives us complete control over the software framework and our data, which is a cornerstone of digital sovereignty.

Yesterday, Tuesday, I left the Flow House, after finishing up my Hive-Blurt-'We Are Alive Tribe' tasks, by a little before 3PM, giving my attention first to some photography for my posts, and then to a few jungle-community tasks, including dumping bad/used coconuts at the upper coco bar, digging another planting hole along the central trail, collecting food supplies from Tutu's for Wabisabi, and doing some dishes in Wabisabi. With those completed, I took a shower, started the generator (lots more clouds), made myself some food in Wabisabi, collected my leftover superfood fire coffee from the fridge, and with those in hands I finally headed back to the Flow House to begin my evening Hive tasks, to install and set up SearXNG, and to work with Hermes a bit more. I got through my notifications by just before 11PM, and after a bit more research and setup with SearXNG, I went to bed by just before 12:30AM. I woke up by about 7:30AM, having slept fairly well, doing too many diverse tasks on my computer to mention, going to prepare my superfood fire coffee in Wabisabi, then returning to the Flow House to write this post. It's now just after 12:45PM, so it's an excellent time to wrap this up, so that I may attend to my few other important Hive-Blurt-'We Are Alive Tribe' tasks, before preparing for a session that's scheduled for 1:30PM. I deeply appreciate y'all so very much! Until tomorrow's iteration of these posts! Always forward, onward, upward, and whaleward, ho, together we go! 😁🙏💚✨🤙

2026 Life Goals

1.) Do regular integral practices again, alone or with others.

2.) Prepare regular batches of my medicinal teas collected from the land again.

3.) Make my plant nursery, and the gardens, beautiful again.

4.) Begin learning relevant coding/programming languages to more fully contribute to the sovereignty-driven technologies where I am active, like Arch Linux, Hive, Qortal, DeSo, and Bastyon.
