"How Can I Get Big Upvotes on Hive?" .:. Late Night Blogging

...if I got a dollar for every time I saw that question on Hive, I would be a millionaire... 🙂 Let's be honest from the very beginning... I don't know the answer to the question, but I do know some other things that could be helpful for some of you... But before we dive deeper, let's clarify a few more things...

Firstly, I know how it looks to be a beginner on HIVE... Yes, I was there 4-5 years ago, but I was there, as well like EVERYONE else on this network! So, you are NOT the only one who have/has/had the problem of being a beginner and having low upvotes on their posts...

How Can I Get Big Upvotes on Hive.jpg
Created on Canva.com

Secondly, I know that you are creating great content, probably the best content ever... for you... But, is it valuable for others too? I mean, I can say that my content is the best content on HIVE, but if it doesn't add value to others, that's just my BIASED opinion and not the truth! It's irrelevant what YOU (or I) think about your/my content, it's important what it means for others! Other people are those who are checking your posts and UPVOTE them... People do forget that behind every account is a person who evaluates the post before upvoting...

Thirdly, do you grow your HivePower and do you upvote/support other content creators? It doesn't matter if your upvote is worth 1/10 of a cent, or $1, the important is to support fellow authors and commentators... Again, not for the sake of spending your mana, but to truly enjoy consuming the content... If you don't enjoy it, don't upvote it! Simple as that! Many make a huge mistake by supporting content that they didn't even look at. It can be very self-destructive, as, in that way, you show that you support low-effort posts, spam, or something even worse... That can send a bad message to newcomers that we support that on HIVE...

Liotes Divider Blue.png

... and the most important thing of all...

If you are here for the people, for the friends on HIVE, for making new connections, and for helping out others, you don't have to worry about upvotes, and you probably don't worry about that at all! You KNOW that your posts mean something to your friends and readers, and you don't need additional confirmation of that! But, usually, upvotes are following when you focus on people, and not on the money...

In the end... We always come to the same conclusion... If you think that money earned through upvotes can motivate you to succeed on HIVE, I have bad news for you... It could work out for you in the short term, but it doesn't work in the long term... Hive isn't different from life, what counts the most are people around you, those who care about you, friends, and family...

Do you consider yourself a part of the HIVE family?

Thank you for your time,

--ph--

I absolutely consider myself part of the Hive family!

I like to interact with others that have something insightful, witty or entertaining; something I can reply to with my own thoughts. I like to interact with folks I've seen (or heard) on Discord shows or X Spaces. Seeing familiar faces is nice. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting a lot of Hiveans in person, but I did have @starkerz and @buttcoins come over to my recording studio once. It was an awesome experience hanging out in person.

To newcomers I'd say be nice, show up, interact with other folks and don't make it about upvote fishing, it's off-putting.

Leaving single sentence comments on people's blog post like

Nice. Thanks for sharing.

Doesn't feel genuine.

I'd also say have some skin in the game. Buy Hive, keep it powered up and use it to support others. Some people might not agree on this one, but I think it separates tourists from true community members and I personally like interacting with true Hiveans more than vote farmers and people who use the blockchain as a faucet :)

What you described is something that should go without saying, it is something so normal that sounds weird to be "explained"... It surprises me when I have to explain to people that the only thing that they have to do is to share something valuable on the chain and to interact with other people... It's easy like that!

I suppose we will need a lot of talks and discussions to get that simple message out... I'm ready... and I know that you are too...

Let's go! 😃

Woop woop, yes to a bit of Skin in the game and yes to real life meetups.
The upvotes are a bonus, it’s about owning our content. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, tic toc…all will never pay shit, and they own and control your content from the moment you hit ‘post’
Hive is a battle ground for demanding that our content is ours and nobody can create arbitrary rules and take away your profile because you have had too many infractions.
A butt’s 2 cents 😀

I read all of it and add my 0.09 to the payout, hmm... but I will opt out from pulling to the surface what I think about Hive. Yeah, there are some tactics and activities that probably can help and might boost your account. But the general answer is: 'theres no way to do that!' 🙃

I saw some great things on HIVE, I saw some ugly things... We met some great people, we met some assholes... The choice is ours to pick the side to hang out... I prefer the good guys, as it's more fun... 😃

Haha I still don't get why people are still asking this question! There are no shortcuts in life.. Even at the workplace, most of us have to work our way from a junior position to a manager, and our salary starts low and goes up with time.

I think we are all would be happier if we don't put too much attention on getting upvotes, and not have expectations about them. Having lesser upvotes doesn't mean one's content is not good too.

You got the point there! That's the simplest and the easiest way to explain to people how there is no "earn-quick-scheme" on HIVE... It is EXACTLY the same as you explained... You have to grow your account, and you have to grow as a human!

I think we all have thought about that so asked question at the beginning of our journey here. Some come to realize what is needed to be a true Hivian while others struggle with why is no one upvoting my articles while they only just produce articles. I say you can do decent if you engage, vote and have some consistently. Also being a little diverse in numerous communities helps as well. It helps getting your face out there by showing more people your material.

I think we all have thought about that so asked question at the beginning of our journey here.

Oh, that's for sure! It happened to me too! Was thinking and dreaming about millions... hahahaha... Luckily, after receiving a wake-up call, I was stubborn enough to stay more and find some great peeps here!

It helps getting your face out there by showing more people your material.

Exactly! YOUR MATERIAL! That's what people are looking for... more personality, less copy/paste... :)

I know that many say that HIVE isn't a "real social media" platform, but IMO, it is much more than others!

I know that many say that HIVE isn't a "real social media" platform, but IMO, it is much more than others!

Exactly for so many reasons. One could write an article on why it's better with much substance :-) It certainly isn't like them as far as negativity goes. A heck of lot less here than on many of them.

Unfortunately, it is not like that as to what I have seen in six and a half years. I have seen that many quality posts were neglected or undervalued here. If only you post everyday, at least one post per day, you might have chance to get bigger upvotes some time later.

I no longer see any effort here to make beginners, who write quality posts, to be consistent.

0.00033261 BEE

I have seen that many quality posts were neglected or undervalued here.

I have to disagree with you on that... I didn't see any Hivian who were posting for that long (6-7 years) + curating/engaging other posts of other authors, to NOT succeed... A combination of both, for that long time, will bring results 100%...

I'm not talking about $100 upvotes, but rather about $5-$10 upvotes... Those $100 upvotes are more a lottery thing or "reserved" upvotes for "privileged people" (which I don't like to see, but it is what it is...)

But, I also agree that some quality posts aren't "visible" enough, but that's OUR fault... We have to reblog and help out them to become more visible...

0.00000508 BEE

Do you have any examples of such authors? I go through the feed every day and struggle to find many quality content which I'd love to curate

0E-8 BEE

...plus many nice users who were producing DECENT CONTENT were kicked off, or frustrated and left Hive. they really had reasons to, and left their goodbye posts with sort of explanations... but probably that would be a bad idea for Hive newcomers to start acquaintance with blockchain from this kind of posts, lol. 😂

0E-8 BEE

Hmmm, hive is a difficult place to survive for beginners but at the same time it isn't.

Most of them hear out on yt channels or Instagram or Facebook that it's all about making content and collecting dollars which turns out against their expectations and as a result most of them go inactive cursing hive people. Lol

If you know the tactics, you are an engaging person, aren't mean, there is no way you aren't making something on hive.

0.00033367 BEE

Amen! It is very easy... relax, plug into the community, make friends, have fun... the rest will come...

Don't force it... ;)

0E-8 BEE

Quality is subjective just like you've mentioned, sometimes I think it's more about the connections one makes, people mostly are tilted to value the people they're familiar with.

0.00033174 BEE

Quality is subjective... and also our upvotes and reasons for upvotes too... If we want to be a decentralized network, we should respect others' opinions, reasons, and actions...

The post title is about upvotes, but the of HIVE isn't... at least in my opinion...

I agree, it's why I refrain from the idea of "shit post" I think what one might not find valuable, another person might

0.00018637 BEE

You will see the good people behind the good content.

0.00033024 BEE

Yup! I suppose that the problem arises when people don't look "behind" the numbers and upvotes... and hey miss all the good people... ;)

0E-8 BEE

I used to worry about big upvotes then but I started making posts to different communities and I was becoming more popular
Right now, I have people who upvote my posts immediately after I do so and I hope for more to come

0.00033107 BEE

I suppose that all of us were "obsessed" with the upvotes value, but when we pushed through that phase, we realized that it's much more fun behind the upvotes...

0E-8 BEE

I think it depends on the reader, but I do agree that at one point, I was fixated on the money value. I did get past that eventually over time though. In the end, I think the community is the best thing here and I think people naturally learn to fit in over time if they stick around.

0.00032937 BEE

I do agree that at one point, I was fixated on the money value.

We all were! Luckily, we found something more valuable than that... The people behind!

It is difficult to be a beginner on a network that has been alive for eight years.
Beginner need to find communities with topics that are in the area of interest, so if a newcomer joins with the opposite desire to make money, here he will find good fun and meet, in one way (online) or another (in person at a meetup), wonderful people...

How many Hive birthdays do I need to celebrate to feel like a member of the Hive family? 🙂
It's my second birthday in 5 days from today 🙂

0.00032589 BEE

Is it easier now than it was 8 years ago? I don't know... It's hard to compare as there are different times... It's like comparing our childhood with the childhood of our grandparents...

Both have their pros and cons and it's hard to compare them... I wouldn't say that it is harder now than before, or vice versa... Simply, it is different...

But, one thing is the same... If you came here for the people, you could find them before, and you can find them now... You can build your network now, as you could do it before...

0E-8 BEE

Now it's definitely easier to get into something related to the crypto world... 8 years ago I didn't even hear about BTC, let alone Hive 🙂
I thought it was more difficult for newcomers to connect to existing networks, but you said it well, as connections were created earlier, new ones can be created today.
In these two years, I have met members of the Hive communities with whom I had common interests, but who "went silent". but that's why some new ones came.

0.00019044 BEE

I think it was slightly harder back in the day. From my curation experience perspective, I've been curator with OCD for 7 years now and things do change. These days, it's a lot easier because there's also communities all around. So, there's high chances you're seen by curators of each communities that are incubated within OCD. In the past, without communities, it was truly wild west to find great content, now just make the best content, engage and someone is increasing their chance of getting curated.

But I believe that true curation lies in individual users too. I mean just like @namiks on the movie community; someone has accumulated quite huge of hp but their curation is let's just say close to 0. We need to emphasize the idea of curating, consuming even staking when you can too rather than relying on big upvotes too.

https://peakd.com/hive-166847/@moviesonhive/lets-talk-about-our-curation-problem

While there are some arbitrary things and rules at play but I still believe there's still a chance for random newbie to make it big over here.Realistically, grinding a year or two.

It's more about the "feeling" than about the number... At least, that's what I had in mind when I wrote that... 😃

That is the question that all humanity asks itself every day: How can I get votes from a whale!!

Just be a normal Hive user, interact with people, produce quality content and in time you will be noticed by whales.

I'm a member of Hive family, at least that's how I assume myself XD

0.00032542 BEE

Just be a normal Hive user, interact with people, produce quality content and in time you will be noticed by whales.

It looks like nowadays, the hardest thing to be is to be NORMAL... 😃 Everyone wants to pretend to be someone else, to escape from their own skin, instead of being "normal", interacting normally with their friends, and having fun...
