Most people, including myself, judge humans or things either wrongly or rightly. Looks can be deceiving indeed, times we are quick to conclude by what we merely see outside without knowing the content. We label people or things either good or bad, poor or rich. Some people have missed an opportunity due to the way we judge and overlook our fellow humans, maybe because of the way they dress. I have been a victim of this, and I will share my experience with you right away.
My friends and I were on a job hunt a few years ago. We searched online and applied to some vacant positions. We waited for a long time without hearing from those companies. We searched physically at some firms without success. Either the pay is too low or the condition of the job is nothing to write home about. So one day, we were privileged to be in a program conducted by one of the leading firms in our country. My friend told me that we had to look for a good contact during the program; perhaps they could fix us up with a job in their company. It was a nice idea, and when the opportunity came for us to interact with people, I was searching for those in suits, those with the latest cars, and those who I felt had all it takes to fix me somewhere. My friend and I saw a man dressed so casually, you wouldn't know he was part of the people who hosted the program. You would think he was an invited guest like us. My friend suggested we meet him and ask him to assist us in securing a job, but I declined. I told her that nothing good could come out of this casual-looking young lad. She insisted on meeting him, and I allowed her to go alone while I searched deeper for a classy-looking person. To cut the story short, all I received from the high-class people I approached to help me was empty promises. Most times, my messages and mail returned to me without a response. But guess what? That casually dressed young lad was kind. He didn't have the power to give her job directly, but he had strong connections who helped my friend secure an office job at that company. I pushed to be taken after hearing the good news from my friend, but the man said that there was only one slot available. I judged the book by its cover without knowing that the content had the capacity to change my life—a hard lesson I learned.
If you live in my part of Lagos State, you will notice that there are big schools everywhere that are well furnished and catchy. Most times, parents are captivated by the shiny buildings and enrol their children immediately without finding much detail about the content of the school. Some big schools as such are actually good even inside, while in others, only the buildings make sense and most of the teachers are incompetent. I was opportune to witness this practically when I was a classroom teacher in some of the big schools. My son was once in a big school without anything to show for it. Then one day, I decided to create time and hunt for another school. I saw many, and at one of the schools I visited, I was interested in the kind of staff they have. Even though it wasn't a big building like others, judging from the experienced teachers I saw there and the school administration, I concluded that this might seem cool for raising a child academically. So I enrolled my son over there, and within two terms in the school, I saw mega-positive changes. This time around, I wasn't moved by how flashy the school building might look; instead, I judged the qualifications of teachers inside the school. I was right this time.
Both experiences taught me not to be too quick to judge by what I see outside and not to look down on anyone or a thing because what I might be searching for up there might just be right beside me. Looking down on people might be a missed opportunity, because we never know who the Messiah we are looking up to is.
I do hope you got value.

Looking for men in suits..Smiles. It's one of those things. We mostly look for physical appearance but sometimes, we end up making blunder. Your friend was lucky. And about the school building, many parents make that mistake. Sometimes, I just don't seems to understand their reason but looking at it the other way round, they want their child's comfort. Nevertheless, the quality of education matters and supersedes the external structure most parents use to enroll their children into schools. You made a nice choice by enrolling your son into a school with qualified teachers. That's what matter most.
We are always deceived by mere look..lol,it's a good lesson learnt
Yea, some parents mostly consider comfort more than academics but I have come to understand that all that glitters are not gold

This is very informative, a well written piece.
Thanks
Judging is a bad thing according to my religion and I believe we just do it without thinking.
You could have gotten the job but you friend did because she didn't look down on the man. Many big schools don't have anything to offer, they entice people with only big structures.
You are right on this
This life is full of lessons
Hmmm!! Judging things by merely looking on the outward alone can make us loose vital opportunities. Who would thought that a guy on a casual dress can help someone secure a job? It is wrong to underestimate people.
The eyes loves seeing big and beautiful things, thank God you didn't make thesame mistake by underestimating that school by it's outward appearance, another opportunity could have been lost. This is why I agree with those that said taste and see first.. don't just jump into conclusion because you saw, taste it also, the cover can be be a mere costume
Indeed my friend...under estimating people is what many do consciously or unconsciously, however it's something that we shouldn't subject ourselves into
Thank God for your experience, it has taught me a lot.. 🥰
No doubt everyone do this thing we judge without thinking if it is right or wrong and most of the time we are always wrong.
I have been trying not to judge people based on what I see but trust me I would have done it over and over again before I realized that oh I have judge someone wrongly.
I am trying my best too
Many people do this always
I wish we can look closely before concluding
My sister na blood dey run through our veins and and it's like everyone is like that
But we go try not to do that often sha

Not having full details about action or people's personality before making conclusion is pretty bad, today will end up misjudging people or things base on first impression and at times it is always wrong
It's always wrong my dear
Even today, I was wrongly judged...looks like it's in the blood of many people
Lol
I never knew the inside of those big beautiful buildings of schools in Lagos are not what it seems outwardly, now I know better I will be more careful and guided when looking for a school for my baby girl...I got value thanks for sharing ☺️
Smiles 😊
Now u know, when the time reaches, shine Ur eyes lol
We all know that we should not judge anything or anyone by the outside appearance. Instead of knowing that we judge others. It's one kind of prediction which we do almost every time.
Many people do this , I hope we graduate to stop this act
Yes, being too quick to judge might make us miss out on good opportunities, though there are times we are right but in all, it is good to verify something first before coming to a conclusion. The first story would have amazed you because you were only thinking the classy ones with big cars could help you, one would think that way too but we shouldn't be too quick to look down on someone or something because they might end up bringing the best for us.
Exactly my dear.... atimes it's good that we learn our hard lessons in a hard way
Yeah dear, sometimes we make mistakes of judging people by what we see. Only God sees the inside of a man.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for reading my dear 👍
Hello there, Nkem. We have all judged wrongly. I’m so sorry about your experience. I’m glad you learnt your lesson not to judge a book by its cover.
Thanks for sharing.
Indeed my dear
Lessons learnt, correction taken
Eeya do you know that most wealthy men love dimple lifestyles too, that Facebook ceo for instance.
And that school matter, you are so right, I don't enroll my child in a school based on building, I make sure to receive first hand reviews from parent. We keep learning everyday.
Indeed my dear
Review is a nice tactic prior to conclusion
Learning never ends 👍❤️
