Well, that's an analogy that can be applied to many aspects of life, but especially when we look at other countries. I'm sure many of us have considered moving to another country because, in our minds, it seems so much better there than where we are.

Yes, in some situations, the neighbor's grass really is greener, better cared for, softer... Whatever the criteria for judging a good lawn. When you live in an underdeveloped country, it's impossible not to look at more economically structured nations, where the quality of life is better, and not feel like being there. However, you also have to understand that no place is perfect. In fact, some countries face fewer problems than others, and their population enjoys a better life, which makes us want to live there.

Brazil has its problems, of course, but it's still a good place to live. There are regions that are more favorable and comfortable than others, but even so, if I could choose, I'd like to live in Japan. It may sound a bit absurd, given that it's a drastic change of culture from where I live, but it's an experience that appeals to me. I wouldn't want to live there forever, but a few years would be enough for me to enjoy the good things about it and learn a little more about the culture.

And why Japan, out of so many equally interesting countries? I'm not sure. I could say it's because of the anime, but I don't like anime that much. Still, there are many things that make me admire this country. Japan's ancient culture fascinates me, and being able to experience it on a daily basis would be a personal fulfillment. The population, for the most part, is educated and honorable, made up of people who work hard and are undoubtedly very intelligent. The technology also appeals to me, and having the experience of living in a country that is much more modern than my own would be something of an impact for someone who is not so used to this level of development.

I have a friend of Japanese descent. He is Brazilian, the son of Japanese, and it was through him that I came to understand and admire Japan even more. His mother lived and worked there for a few years and, whenever she returned to Brazil, as well as bringing some presents, she would tell us stories about her experience. It wasn't anything extraordinary, but when she talked about everyday life and how things were, it created some curiosities in my head and perhaps made me want to get to know the country. But I always wondered: if it's so good there, why does she always come back?

It turns out that no matter how developed a country is and how many qualities it has, we still put down roots somewhere and prefer to live where we feel best, whether it's because of family, friends, the weather or anything else. It's nice to be able to go somewhere else, imagine what Japan must be like! But even though I'd like to see it, one day I'd like to go back to my good, messy Brazil. Why? Because I do! Maybe this greatness only exists for those who look at it from the outside, those who are used to the place may not even have that sparkle in their eyes anymore.

Geographically, Japan is at the opposite end of the world from Brazil, and you'd have to travel halfway around the world to get there. And I think it would be worth it. Perhaps it's not just a question of physical distance, but also of cultural differences, lifestyle and technological advances. The way I see it, looking at Japan and seeing that it is a modern country that also has an ancient culture, brings a contrast that makes things even more interesting and perhaps this great distance has also created in me a desire for what is different and perhaps even unattainable. This may have shaped the way I think about this country, of course.

Sometimes we admire our neighbor's grass not because it's greener than ours, but simply because it's different. There are so many things in the world to be explored and experienced, so many cultures and ways of looking at life that it makes you want to just go exploring. If I ever become a nomad, I would definitely go to Japan first and see what kind of grass they have there!

O Brasil tem seus problemas, é claro, mas ainda assim é um bom lugar para se viver. Ainda assim, há muitas coisas que me fazem admirar esse país. A cultura milenar do Japão me fascina, e poder vivenciá-la no dia a dia seria a realização pessoal. A população, em sua grande maioria, é educada e honrada, composta por pessoas que trabalham duro e são, sem dúvida, muito inteligentes. A tecnologia também me chama atenção, e ter a experiência de viver em um país muito mais moderno que o meu, seria algo impactante para quem não está tão acostumado com esse nível de desenvolvimento.

Tenho um amigo descendente de japoneses. Ele é brasileiro, filho de japoneses, e foi através dele que passei a entender e admirar ainda mais o Japão. Sua mãe viveu e trabalhou lá por alguns anos e, sempre que voltava ao Brasil, além de trazer alguns presentes, nos contava histórias sobre sua vivência. Não era nada extraordinário, mas quando ela falava sobre os cotidiano e sobre como eram algumas coisas, aquilo criou algumas curiosidades na minha cabeça talvez me instigou a querer conhecer o país. Mas eu sempre me perguntei: se lá é tão bom, porque ela sempre volta?

Acontece que por mais que um país seja desenvolvido e possui suas qualidades, ainda sim criamos nossas raízes em algum lugar e preferimos viver onde nos sentimos melhor, seja por conta de familiares, amigos clima ou qualquer outra coisa. É legal poder ir para outro lugar, imagine como deve ser o Japão! Mas mesmo querendo conhece-lo, um dia eu gostaria de voltar para o meu bom e bagunçado Brasil. Porque? Por que sim! Talvez essa grandeza só existe para quem olha de fora, quem está acostumado com o lugar, talvez nem tenha mais aquele brilho nos olhos.

Geograficamente, o Japão está no extremo oposto do Brasil, e seria necessário viajar meio mundo para chegar lá. E acho que valeria a pena. Talvez não seja apenas uma questão de distância física, mas também de diferenças culturais, estilo de vida e avanços tecnológicos.
