The Good, The Bad And The Need For Balance.

We're in the digital age, a lot of things have become digital and it seems to have affected friendships too, friendships too have now become digital in our world today. Not like before when you get to know and see someone physically and with them, you become close and inseparable, today, all of that is possible on the internet. All you just need is an internet connection and you're good to go. You meet different people online now, talk, and with time you see if they're the type to get close too, if they're, then things continue from there.

Personally, I have quite a few number of online friends, I mean that I'm very very close too, those who if they didn't hear from me in an hour or two would start calling me to be sure I'm good, especially if I didn't drop a message that I would be busy, but that's not where I'm going. These are friends who know things about me that even those who know me physically doesn't. These are people whom we've shared fears, secrets, tough times, struggles and a whole lot together, I mean we've gotten so close to an extent that maybe if we had known each other physically we wouldn't have gone this far. Most times, we feel comfortable behind the screen to say or share something we may never have shared with a physical person.

I actually have an online friend, we've been friends for like 10 years plus already now, we've had issues, we've fought, we've given space, we've come back and a whole lot more, what I'm saying is, most of the things sht happen with physical friendships is what happens there too, cause now you're close and you expect certain things, you share stuff with each other and still feel the need to correct one another too. Though we later saw each other physically but that was just less than 3 years ago. We've been good and close friend for a long time before finally seeing physically. What I'm saying in essence is that, you can build very good and great friendships online, even if you're thousands of kilometers away from each other.

Now, in as much as it may be good, it can be bad too, a lot of people are now using the Internet for bad things now, they appear to be good and once they feel you've trusted them and already feel comfortable around them, they turn to hurt you, use a thing against you and harm you. Those we know physically can hide things and we layer get to know or have an hunches about them, or better still we can know someone we can ask about them and do a background check, but with these online it is almost impossible, we only know and have no option but to accept what they say and who they say they are. They can pretend to be who they're not, and that will be the image of them we will have in mind whereas they're a completely different person.

Also, in as much as it is not so bad to connect online, it can also make us lose touch with the real world and the real people we have close to us. When you're going through something and you don't have a physical friend who knew about it or can actually help you out, but only an online friend, the day something will happen, how will that online friend get there to help. I'm not saying we shouldn't have online friends, I'm saying we should be careful about it and at the same time make sure we as well have physical ones too, because a time will come when even you would know someone who's on the screen isn't needed now, you need someone who's physically present.

Like I said earlier, there's nothing wrong with having online friends, just be careful about it, I have quite a few of them too ad to be honest, they mean so much to me. Very genuine, and loving set of people who are really concerned about me, want me to grow and want the best for me, even still, I have physical friends who mean just as much to me. People I can call, reach out to, and are near.

We should just find a way to balance it, have them online and have them physically too.

The only friends i have online are those that are too far away to see regularly most my friends are in the physical world, the digital is suppose to be a tool not someones life in my opinion.

Makes me sad that people only live in the digital world when all they have to do is say hello and start a conversation.

Be child like

Hello, do you like whatever? Yes me too let's be friends, is what children do.

It really isn't that hard to make physical relationships, find a shared interest then discuss it at brunch simples.
