The Fine Line Between Art And Offense.

Just because we can now say something or create a thing, does it now mean that we can do anyhow or say anything we like...? Like, you know some do say there's freedom of speech which I very well love and agree too but does that freedom means we shouldn't know when and where to draw the line, or when and where it should be applied.

Art happens to be something I love and admire so much. I'm good at acting, but I'm very bad at drawings and the likes, and I'd love how I say artists who paints, sketch, draw and all of that, like I love it so much and really wish I can do it too. There are some paintings you see and you can't help but wonder the meaning behind it, some carry emotions, some carry inspiration, and all of that. A painting you see in the gallery or on a wall isn't just a mere painting, I don't even believe or think there's anything like a mere painting, every painting carries a meaning/story.

Now, like I said earlier, I love it so much. But then again, there are some paintings that are being used to challenge a system, speaking ill of society and such. So, if all piece that offend a person or a society is being removed, how then do we communicate certain pressing issues that ordinary words may not fully comprehend.

Like I said earlier, I'm bad at it so I may not fully understand or know deep deep about it. But I've seen an art somewhere, it was one that I can fully explain because it shows so well that it was used to insult another person's culture, let's not even say insult, it was used to drag another person's religion, and I can't help but ask the house owner why he owns such and even placed it in his sitting room. Maybe to him it is just art, but to someone else, maybe any of his maids who practice that religion it is an insult. Some

Some weeks back we were discussing a topic about mental health and physical health, we all agree that mental health is as important as our physical health... Right. What I'm saying now is, the fact that we don't see the other person being hurt physically by a work of art does not mean they are not hurt emotionally. There are physical wounds and there are emotional wounds as well.

Also while creating or showcasing their arts, artist need to be aware of who and where they are creating for. There are some things that you create and don't just place or showcase in public places. The example I cited earlier, the man could have just placed it in his room or somewhere only he has access too. Why put such up in his sitting room where he often holds meetings and such sign visitors, who are of various religions and all. Not as if you can't show your creativity in a public place,. I'm just saying it shouldn't be at the cost of others respect.

Also, I don't agree with banning some artwork. I remember seeing an artwork on Facebook some few weeks ago. I love it so much because it perfectly captures our situation at the moment and the state in which the country is. It does looks somehow though, but honestly it is out reality. Now, in the comment section of the post it was obvious that it doesn't sit well with some people. But to me, it's okay, it shows what we are going through, the injustice in our society and such. Why do we take or remove such, why do we need to silence ourselves. A lot of people are speaking up on what's wrong in the country, and that is the artist's best way of speaking up too.

In my first sentence I talked about knowing when and where to draw the line. For me, I feel where to draw the line is when our means of expressing ourselves (paintings) becomes a deliberate attack on people or one that promotes or encourages hatred, division, tribalism, religion wars and the likes. One of our greatest freedom is the freedom of speech, even still it should be guided.
