HEALTHY PLANTING, HEALTHY LIVING

Food production has evolved in this generation the same way technology has evolved over the years. With the introduction of mechanized farming that has in so many ways made food production easier, we can't say that the quality of food production now cannot be compared with the quality of food production before the arrival of mechanized farming. The result of this fact can be seen in our daily lives and the dangers we have been exposed to. Seems all mechanized farming has done is increase the quantity of food production alongside bringing in a variety of food ideas that we never knew existed. But then with the varieties of food ideas and ingredients we have, also came a variety of incurable and devastating illnesses we suffer today. From things we read about history, it's as though we have become weaker than our ancestors even though we became wiser than them.

But then again, we can't begin to fault technology for all the adverse effects that were both predicted and unplanned for because if we should be honest, normal manual and man made labour will not feed the population we currently have. Humanity has grown so large that the lot of people that would have died of hunger if not for mechanized farming would have been 100 times as outrageous compared with what we have now. In this day and age, one has to be poorer than poor to not be able to see food at least once or twice in a week. If not for mechanized farming, slavery would have still been the order of the day and only the wealthy would eat to satisfaction. Today even the poor are satisfied at times and the only thing we have to worry about is the cost of food in the market and not if the scarcity of food in the market.

Let's think about it, how many times do we hear about the scarcity of food? At least a country as populated as Nigeria with a bad government will be one to suffer from it. We mostly hear about inflation in the prices and not the scarcity of food itself. This lets us know how available food is in the market. But if everyone is to take the important things into consideration, then we would ask ourselves the question; at what cost? Can something be done about the quality of food we eat?. Can humanity find a way out of the problems our intelligence has put us in?. If I am to give an honest opinion here, the truth will be I don't see a way out. I mean let's look around us, our air is polluted, the animals we have are not exempted either, so you can't trust the meat or fish as even the water is polluted. Moreso, if we were to find a solution, it would still require more technology which will result in unknown problems.

I'm not one to give up on humanity, but I don't see a way for technology to strive alongside nature. One must go down to strengthen the other. The earth's atmosphere has already been so used to technology that it would take time for it to heal, probably a full generation for such a thing to happen. And that would even be on the off chance that humanity will agree to get rid of technology. I read a documentary some days back of a doctor who attended to the fact that cancer comes mostly from the kind of food we eat, of which even the natural foods are not that natural. According to him, 75% of the cancer patients he lost did not die of cancer, but radiation poisoning which we know as chemotherapy and the treatment of cancer. So you can see that our unnatural foods harm us, the treatment for the harm is also harmful, which is one of the many vices we have to live with because humanity has traded strength for knowledge.

Too much chemicals, too much preservatives,
We need a balance of Natural food and a little of Preserved food

These food problems have always been more driven by political issues than anything else in my opinion. If we really wanted to end hunger, perhaps we would have already achieved it, but people in power today are not really worried about that.

Today's technology can help us find this solution, but I hope that one day leaders who care about people will emerge to solve this problem of world hunger.
