As I grow older I realize that the world is different from what I knew as a child. Probably because I was a child full of innocence or because I was shielded by the love of parents who did not want me to experience the cruelty of the world system. But one thing is certain, even though I didn’t really know much then, it was clear that the way people thought and the actions people made are way different from what they used to be. I don’t know if it was because people were just naive because it seems as we become wiser, we have become more wicked. Maybe man is just naturally wicked, and the new and advanced technologies are just bringing out the wickedness of man more.
In a time when people valued culture and morals, we did not have to suffer a lot of the problems we are suffering today. Problems like divorce so much as they are today, abuse wasn’t common, and respect and integrity were things that almost everyone had. Ladies value themselves so much that they will not try to show more than their hands and legs outside. Even prostitutes had a level of decency to know what to show in public and what not to show. A thief was seen as an abnormality in society and the majority of those that steal do so because they really had nothing and would have done something else if given the opportunity. People had good relationships with their neighbors and giving/sharing were things that were very common.
I once read a tweet where a man talked about his experience visiting China for the first time. According to him, he left his wallet and phone in the taxi that took him to his hotel. On reaching there he told the hotel manager that he had lost his wallet and phone and he was told not to worry that once the driver notices it, he will bring it back. According to him, he never believed what the hotel manager said because if such a thing was to happen in Nigeria, he can be rest assured that everything he had was gone for good considering the amount of money that was in his wallet. He was already counting his losses and trying to come to terms with the fact that he would have to find a way to reach his people in Nigeria and probably safeguard the money in his account when the taxi driver came about an hour later with everything intact.
When he asked why the driver didn’t take the money and run, the driver stated that it was beneath him to do so. Coming from a country like Nigeria, a man would be labelled a fool to have done what the taxi man did because it is very uncommon. Now I ask myself, when did we get to this point, how do these things become uncommon and evil has become common. If there was something I could bring back, it would be a time where integrity, trust and morality was what we valued above material things. Imagine how it would be if these things become the core of the nation in times like this…

I have heard a similar story between the taxi driver and the passenger.
i wish such level of individual dignity will be restored. Its really amazing.
Yeah it is
Good people still exist here, my dad once forgot his wallet and phone in public bus and it was returned to him by the driver.
