Reflections In The Ember Months

“2025 is my year. 2025 is the year I make big waves.” On the first day of the year, many of us uttered this statement. We probably said the same in 2024 and the previous years. “This year is the year I make big wins.” I have come to notice something about people. They post this statement on their statuses at the beginning of the year, and then in the closing months, they post an entirely different thing. Something along the lines of “My year of big wins has only 3 months left or I said 2025 was my year to make big waves, but here I am.” I actually understand them. It can be disheartening when you look forward to the year, draft SMART goals and plan to achieve them. You are even convinced that the year will be unlike previous years, only for you to realize that you haven’t made progress. The question to ask yourself is: Did you really put in the effort to make sure 2025 is your year? If so, are you certain that you haven’t grown at all? Not even an inch? I very much doubt that.

Looking back, 2025 has been one interesting journey filled with experiences and lessons. It is funny how the year flies so fast. One minute we are in January and within a blink of an eye, the ember months are knocking. Today’s Hive Learner’s prompt is THE EMBER MONTHS. How has the year been for you so far? Have you been able to achieve your goals or are you waiting to wrap the year up so you can start a new year afresh? I remember January 1st like it was yesterday. I was on a call with a very special person. We had a lengthy conversation about the things we wanted to achieve throughout the year. To be very honest, some of the goals we drafted out seemed impossible. I questioned myself. How is it possible to achieve this and that? But you know what? I have achieved most of the goals I doubted.

A few months ago, I wrote my final paper and signed out of the university. It was a day I had always been looking forward to. A journey of about 5 years came to an end. It didn't just come to an end, it came to an end in one of the best ways ever. Throughout my journey in the university, I barely had fun. I went from one lecture room to another and from the library to my hostel. I barely had time for my personal life. But this year? Things worked out differently. I had fun with friends. I did things that I didn't think I would ever do. I remember my FYB week. I had fun for 5 good days. From corporate day, to Jersey day, and Cultural day. They were all a blast.

This year, I did things I had never done in my life. How did I almost forget to mention that I went to the beach for the first time in my life? It was a wonderful experience. I loved the way the sand felt on my legs, I loved the sight of the waves dancing together and I totally loved the sight of the sky from that spot. Everything felt heavenly. I had fun at every slight chance I got because I knew I probably wouldn't get the chance again for a very long time. The beautiful places and events I attended didn’t affect grades. I came out with flying colors and I'm grateful to God for that. So if you ask me how the year has been for me, I’d say it has been beautiful. It has been extraordinarily beautiful and I thank God for that.

Moving on to my goals, there are certain goals I am yet to achieve. For example, the yearly badge. Posting every day on Hive hasn't been easy, and I can't just wait for December 31st so I can make my final post for the year and get my badge. This year, I took a lot out of my HBD savings because I had bills to sort, but at least I was able to save some back. The year hasn't ended. A lot can still happen in the ending months of 2025, but I just hope and pray that everything will work out in my favour.

WOW! A big congratulations to you my bro. Sign out is one that we always look forward to as student. And all glory to God for helping you achieve that this year. I have seen many students who never got the opportunity to sign out. Maybe because of sickness or withdraw from school for one reason or the other.
Congratulations once again.
Thanks for sharing
