Here in my country, there is this particular phrase a lot of persons say which some think it is a passage in the Bible, lol. Anyways, the Bible never said something like that directly but there are some places when we are reminded that we have to work out our own salvation ourselves first before anyone can help us. And just like the story I always like telling people when I talk to them about Jesus Christ. Let’s say you fall into a pool of water and you are not a swimmer or your leg got stuck to something and then someone stretches their hands towards you to help pull you out, that alone is not enough to save you.
You can only be saved when you have the conviction in your heart that this person stretching their hands towards you is indeed there to help you and can help you even if you were to sink down. It is only when you have the conviction that person will help that you can stretch your hands towards them to help you. Just imagine that the person that came to help you was someone you’ve always believed to be a wicked person or someone you hate so much. So, this is why a lot of persons say that phrase and the Bible also teaches that we have to work out our own salvation out but that doesn’t mean others can’t help us when we need help. Okay, let’s pause for a moment, I’ll be back to why I said all that.
For today, the Hivelearners topic has asked us to share our thoughts on HEALTHY TAX. First of all, the question that comes to mind is, what is a healthy tax? In simple terms and in my own words, a healthy tax is a compulsory levy that is placed on goods and services not just to generate revenue for the government but to help the citizens make better choices. It is healthy which means it is not exactly posing any threat to people but rather it is trying to help them do the right thing.
In our world today, we know just how much a lot of people have been addicted to so many things like cigarettes, alcohol, drugs and the likes. This is mostly as a result that these items are things that are easily affordable. For hard drugs like cocaine and some other expensive drugs that are not as common, we can see that people don’t abuse them as much as they abuse alcohol and cigarettes. The only people that abuse such substances are people that have money to sustain that lifestyle. I’m focused on these items because they are items that have the capability to affect how someone reasons and act.
So for today’s topic, we are going to be discussing whether or not the government imposing hefty tax on some of these items will help reduce their demands or not. Personally, I believe it will help reduce the intake of these items because money is one of the major influence of our lifestyle. Yes, there are some exceptions but most people would not even think twice about doing some certain things the moment they hear the amount of money involved in it. They quickly get discouraged from engaging in those things.
Regardless of that, there are some that have made up their minds to just satisfy their pleasures so they are ready to go all in. No matter how much you impose hefty taxes on the things they want, they will always find a way to make that money available. Now this is where the story I told earlier comes in. Yes, salvation is for everyone to pursue for themselves but that shouldn’t stop people from going to help out. The government making this law might not help everyone (it doesn’t have to) but it is definitely going to help a lot of persons make better choices.
And as for the others that this law might not affect, the punishment for those who abuse these drugs should be increased and advertised if possible so they would think twice before engaging in them. Yes, we know that we all have our choices to make but then, most times people make choices that ruin innocent lives so it’s fine for the government to interfere sometimes to keep every citizens as safe as possible. The only thing is that, this tax should only be for things that can affect a person’s mood, state of mind and actions.
So yes, I believe this will be a good move from the government and it would be nice if our governments can adopt it with an open mind just incase there is need for some improvements.

Wow. Reading your first intro, I wasn't totally getting it but as I kept reading, I saw how you joined that beautiful concept with the topic. Truly, the government might want to save people by levying heavy tax on products that seem so harmful to one's health, still, not everyone would appreciate this. But for those who truly want a change and be saved, they will quickly understand why such a thing should happen. I love this concept, dear ❤️
Thank you, mama.
I’m glad you kept on reading to get the concept and you loved it! 🤭
That is just the way I see it too. Some people can't stop because they are already addicted and no matter what we do to help as long as they are not ready to be saved from it, it won't work.
Thanks for sharing
Yes, mama. That’s right.
Thanks for your contribution and agreeing with me. 🤗
If the government impose huge tax on these things, the demand will definitely drop as only those with excess money to spend will want to buy them.
That’s just it o. I can’t imagine myself killing myself to buy something that will destroy me.
Thanks for your contribution, Offia. 🤗
Thank you. 🥰
