Regular Checkups: A Key to Better Health or an Unwanted Obligation

None of you will have any reason to visit the hospital this year ...Amen! we all shouted to affirm the prayer of our pastor, that's how bad most of us Nigerians detest going to the hospital that it ended up becoming a prayer point, you would think once in a while check ups would be rationally excluded, but no, hospital is still hospital to most of us, be it being admitted or just a regular check up, they both sound the same, especially to our ignorant parent.

well, one can't ignore the fact that they have some genuine reasons to be biased about hospital visits, some of which includes the high cost of getting proper medical service, the impatience of having to wait in the line of numerous number of patients wanting to see the doctor, especially in government owned hospitals, and even the uneasy feeling of being surrounded by patients with different ailment.

But what if having a medical checkup at least once in a year becomes a compulsory order from the government for everyone to partake in or face the wrath of the law, which might include jail term or a fine, like when we don't pay our taxes. In this post, we'll delve into the potential effects of making medical checkups compulsory, exploring both the advantages and disadvantages if such a policy is passed.

Starting with the advantages, if such law is passed, early detection of serious ailment which could have end up taking a life due to late discovery, will be reduced as prevention is always better than cure, regular check up would be of advantage to us in this case, as some ailment or intending ones lack symptoms during their stage, kidney disease is one sickness that has become common to both old and young in today's world, unfortunately, I lost a cousin of mine to same disease, sometimes I feel only if it was detected on time, she might have survived.

do you know another reason why prevention is always better than cure, that's because it also helps us save cost, comparing the finance that goes into living healthy and taking preventive measures against a particular illness is usually much cheaper than trying to cure oneself of it, so you see, regular checkup isn't all that bad.

Now unto the disadvantages, one common problem in my country is that some people tend to abuse the law by passing it because they have influence or financial capabilities of doing that. so the whole aim of passing the law becomes useless if no one follows accordingly.

Also passing this law and making it compulsory might raise suspicions on whether the government have ulterior motives for making such law just like a lot of people felt when taking coovid vaccine became a criteria for certain permission in the country, and it would make most people take it as an infringement on their right to make a choice on what to doo with their body.

In conclusion, before such law can be passed the government must seek ways to create a ball for everyone.
