An Equal say

(edited)

Gender equity is a process that leads to gender equality amongst females and males which recognizes that both parties have equal opportunities to achieve success. This simply means that they have access to the same rights and resources.

Although gender equity is easy to write about by millions of people/ sweet to also talk about, but in reality it is entirely a different ball game. In the past, women and girls have faced a lot of disadvantages as they are considered to be the weaker vessel being subjected to nothing but good for the home. Education was almost forbidden for the girl child thus when calibers of great men who shook the world with inventions, hearing a woman's name was almost impossible but all thanks to few fearless women who stood their ground beyond all odds. As long as both genders are humans and birthed the same way I see no reason why there should be bias. Not trying to be gender based here, women are carriers of visions and when set her mind to do something, she puts in her all and until that is achieved there is no time to rest.

The only thing affecting most women is how society has devalued her capacity so it takes a lot of encouragement to even want to try. But thank God for the modern woman who has decided not to be like her ancestors where they are only good for the kitchen and the other room with little or no say now we have women in almost all arms of power both governmental and non-governmental.

Okay a little story.....where I worked before, I used to have this colleague of mine who was not privileged to further her education to tertiary. Whenever we have a discussion and probably mention education where I would say I want to further, her intentions were to just get married and start up her own little business. You know at first I used to wonder why she never wanted to further not until she opened up. She's from this kind of family where they only have respect for men and not women but I won't say it's unfortunate because every child is a blessing be it male or female but then her mother had five females and just a male child.

When she and her elder sisters attended a government school her brother was going to a good private school and till date the only person their dad sent to the tertiary institution to further was her brother while the rest were sent to learn a trade including my co-worker. I never thought such still exists in this century, but it does. Nevertheless I liked how all the ladies took their skill seriously and now thrived in their different businesses.

Gender equity doesn't just start from society, but the home where responsibility is accorded to each respectfully. In marriages where understanding reigns, although the man is responsible for almost all financial resources the woman does her duties which to some extent, strike a balance with the man's financial responsibility. And for the women that also earn money a percentage of her money is used to sort some stuff with or without her husband's consent to ease the burden too.
Lastly, no matter what respect and understanding remains the code to a happy home and society.

It will only take time, very soon the world would be able to adapt to gender Equity. Where all genders would be equally empowered, respected and treated without bias
