The 'brain' that sprouts from the ground - PhotoFeed Contest - Macro Photography Round 115

While I was walking home the other day, passing through the little square near my house, something on the ground caught my eye: a mushroom unlike anything I’d ever seen. It was bulky, with an intricate texture full of folds and curves — it looked just like a brain. I was hypnotized. I had never come across one of these before and, being naturally curious about the world around me, I knelt down to take a closer look and snap some photos.

I later found out — thanks, Google — that it’s a Sparassis crispa, also known as the cauliflower mushroom. This species is rare around here and stands out for its unique and artistic shape. Although it's edible in some regions — is it really though? — what truly matters is the sense of wonder it sparks — and it definitely sparked that in me.

I’m in love with moments like this — when the unexpected makes me stop, observe, photograph, admire. Nature is a flawless artist, capable of creating beauty even in the smallest cracks of routine.

Enquanto voltava pra casa esses dias, passando pela praça aqui perto, algo no chão chamou minha atenção: um cogumelo diferente de tudo que eu já tinha visto. Era volumoso, com uma textura intricada, cheia de dobras e curvas, parecendo um cérebro. Fiquei hipnotizada. Nunca tinha encontrado um desses antes e, como boa curiosa da vida ao redor, me abaixei pra observar de perto e registrar em fotos.

Descobri depois - obrigada, Google - que se trata do Sparassis crispa, também conhecido como cogumelo-couve-flor. Essa espécie é rara por aqui e chama atenção pelo formato único e artístico. Embora seja comestível em algumas regiões - será? - , o mais importante mesmo é o fascínio que ele provoca — e que provocou em mim.

Sou apaixonada por momentos assim — quando o inesperado me faz parar, observar, fotografar, admirar. A natureza é uma artista impecável, capaz de criar beleza mesmo nas menores frestas da rotina.
