Plantain farming is a business that many people underestimate, perhaps due to a lack of awareness about its profitability or the effort involved in managing a plantation.
Recently, I decided to visit a nearby farm where I cultivate different crops, including plantains. To my surprise, I discovered that two of the plantain trees had produced healthy bunches, which were ready for harvest. Excited, I decided to cut them, planning to eat one and sell the other.
On my way home, something unexpected happened, the plantains caught the attention of passersby. Many people showed interest and even offered to buy them on the spot. After receiving several requests, I decided to sell both. Guess what? The two bunches of plantain earned me an unexpected ₦6,000! I was so happy.
When I got home, a thought crossed my mind, what if I started a full-scale plantain plantation? If just two bunches could fetch me ₦6,000, imagine having 20 bunches! That would bring nothing less than ₦60,000 in no time. Besides the financial benefit, plantain farming also provides food. Truly, this is a great business opportunity!
My Plans for the Plantain Farm:
Get more plantain suckers
Clear the farmland
Plant them properly
Apply natural manure for healthy growth
In the next few months, I am confident that my plantain farm will yield even more income.
