There are times in life when you feel like everyone else has figured things out except you.
You open social media and see someone getting a new job. Someone is travelling. Someone is starting a business. Someone is graduating. Someone is buying a car. Someone is getting married. Someone seems to have everything going perfectly.
Then you look at your own life and start wondering:
“Am I actually making progress?”
I think almost everyone has had that thought at some point.
The funny thing is that we rarely see the full story behind the things we see.
We see someone’s achievement, but we don’t see the months or years of uncertainty that came before it.
We see the successful business, but not the failed ideas.
We see the graduation pictures, but not the stressful nights.
We see the new job announcement, but not the hundreds of applications that may have been sent before that opportunity arrived.
We see the result.
We don’t see the process.
And sometimes comparing our process to someone else’s result can make us feel like we are falling behind.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently.
Life doesn’t really follow the neat timeline we imagine when we are younger.
You think you will reach a certain age and everything will suddenly make sense.
You will know exactly what career you want.
You will know where you want to live.
You will know what kind of person you want to become.
You will have everything planned.
Then you actually get older and realise that life doesn’t work like that.
You figure things out one step at a time.
Sometimes you make a decision and later realise it wasn’t the right one.
Sometimes you change your mind.
Sometimes something you really wanted doesn’t happen.
Sometimes something you never expected becomes the opportunity that changes everything.
And that’s okay.
I think we put too much pressure on ourselves to have everything figured out.
There is nothing wrong with not knowing exactly what comes next.
There is nothing wrong with changing direction.
There is nothing wrong with starting again.
Starting again can actually be one of the strongest things a person can do.
Sometimes you have to accept that a particular plan didn’t work and create a new one.
Sometimes you have to let go of an old version of yourself.
Sometimes you simply need to keep moving even when you don’t know exactly where you are going.
Progress doesn’t always look impressive.
Sometimes progress is just becoming a little more disciplined.
Sometimes it is learning a new skill.
Sometimes it is applying for another opportunity after being rejected.
Sometimes it is finally finishing something you have been postponing.
Sometimes it is simply getting through a difficult period without giving up.
Those things might not look exciting on social media, but they still count.
I also think we should appreciate ordinary days more.
Not every day needs to be special.
Some days are just normal.

You wake up, use your phone, eat, work, talk to someone, watch something, laugh about something random and eventually go to sleep.
Then the next day comes.
At first, it might feel like nothing is happening.
But life is mostly made up of these ordinary days.
The big moments are important, but they are surrounded by thousands of small moments that we usually don’t remember.
A random conversation.
A funny message.
A song you suddenly become obsessed with.
A meal that tastes better than expected.
A late-night conversation with a friend.
A random trip.
A football match.
A game that you played for hours.
These little things become part of our lives too.
Maybe that is something I am learning to appreciate more.
You don’t always need a huge achievement to prove that your life is moving forward.
Sometimes you just need to be present enough to notice that you are actually living it.
There will always be another goal.
Another job.
Another amount of money to make.
Another place to visit.
Another skill to learn.
Another thing to improve.
And there is nothing wrong with ambition.
But if we spend our entire lives waiting for the next achievement before allowing ourselves to be happy, we might miss the life happening in between.
So I am trying to remind myself that it is okay to take things one step at a time.
I don’t have to have every answer today.
I don’t have to know exactly where I will be five years from now.
I just need to keep learning, keep trying and keep moving.
Maybe life doesn’t need to make complete sense yet.
Maybe some things only make sense when you look back at them years later.
For now, I think the best thing we can do is keep going.
Enjoy the good days.
Learn from the bad ones.
Appreciate the people around us.
Take opportunities when they come.
And don’t let someone else’s timeline make you feel like yours is wrong.
Everyone’s story moves differently.
And sometimes, the chapter that feels confusing while you’re living it becomes the chapter that makes the most sense later.

Very well said my friend the moments we create are really what makes life worth living and we are only ever really in competition with ourselves.
