Neighborhood Kids Harvesting Guava and Budding Plants (Garden Update) <3

(edited)

Hey friends!
It's time for another garden update...

Earlier this week, some of our neighborhood kids asked for our permission to harvest some guavas in front of the house. We don't eat them that much, so we told them that they can ask us if they ever want some... and last Friday was one of those days.

We had just finished our breakfast when they called us from outside the house to ask for permission, and they started harvesting. They called us again after they got some to say thank you, and so I took their photos to document and share here.

There are other batches of kids who come over to ask for some as well. As long as the guava bears fruit, they can enjoy them. They happily posed when I told them I was taking their photos. We also brought one of our guava plants from the city, which my mom and I cultivated before. We planted it on the opposite side, but it's yet to bear fruit... It's thriving, though. :)

After I took their photo, I decided to go around the garden to check how our plants are doing and take more photos to share here.

Look at all those greens! We've got water spinach (kangkong) and sweet potato tops... Recently, my mom made vegetable soup using them. She also cooked adobong kangkong, or water spinach adobo, and it was so delicious!

Malabar spinach!!! We've harvested multiple times already and they just keep on growing. My high school bestie even came over to harvest some to add to her vegetable dish. I think she's coming over later today to get some of these alongside moringa leaves with her other friends from the area. We can't consume them by ourselves, so we've been sharing them.

They're still tiny sprouts, but they're eggplants. :) I hope they grow bigger in the coming days. Eggplant is one of my fave vegetables. :)

Planted around the same time as the eggplant seeds, these okra seedlings are thriving. I think they grow much faster... In the coming days, they'll be replanted. This is among the vegetables that's easy to grow, and once they start bearing, we'd have to harvest over and over so they won't go bad. haha

I'm not a fan of okra, but I can eat them. I just don't like the slimy texture that much. My parents love them, though. :)

Our chilis are becoming colorful! We've harvested some ripe ones, which Mama added to our soup last time. And the one with the white flowers? That's a bell pepper. We used to have lots of them back in our garden in the city.

I actually like eating bell pepper, especially in a fresh vegetable salad or on pizza. The ones we had back then were a bit sweet, so I hope this one will be the same, too!

Lastly, let's check the tomatoes. They've been growing well, and I'm happy to see these little buds starting to peek. I'm excited to see cute yellow flowers bloom on these plants, because the next ones that appear after they wither are the actual fruit or vegetable! :)

I'll be giving updates again soon. I'll end this here for now, so I'll see you on the next one! (^^,)/
