You probably know by now that we rescued a street car last year called Mojo, she was my true friend. We were great buddies and had a special connection. It hurts me until this very day that she escaped in heat and then we weren't able to rescue her after all the weeks of effort we put into it. I remember my boyfriend went up the scary stairs to drop down our carrier with a rope hoping she'd come up, she got in several times, but never went up more than a meter or so. It was a 10-meter-deep hole at least. We all miss her today, and she will always be in our hearts.
This was a very cute blue-eyed kitten, younger than Mojo, who we didn't rescue while we were still teaching Mojo to be a good house cat. We were waiting for her sterilization (scheduled for the week she escaped, sigh) and then decide if we take in the final kitten in the same spot near our home too. And then Mojo was nowhere to be found anymore, and I read more and more stories about cats being poisoned in our area. I fear she was one of them, as nobody ever found her again (still check FB every day to see if she is found somewhere). We decided to take in Mochi at that time so at least he was off the streets.
He sure doesn't like to be cuddled like Mojo loved and was purring loudly while truly enjoying all the petting. He is a personality of his own and while we hate that he doesn't love to come to us and cuddle, we do enjoy his utterly cute moments of playfulness because he is so much fun to look at. He also loves it when I kick a tennis ball to the other side of the room and gladly runs after it. Then he plays a bit with it and jumps up with the ball, sometimes even a meter and a half high, super funny! And then at some point, he looks at me and sits, winks as if he says "Your turn" lol. It's a recurring thing and super funny.
As soon as we want to pet him or come too close he will jump and leave. There are exceptions though, lately, he is less scared if he's sleeping on the sofa and we join him while watching tv. It depends on if we ignore him while seating I guess. He seems to become more curious about what we're doing as well and I notice he comes to me more often when I call him from the bedroom. If there will be more improvement, we don't know, either way, he's part of the family now.
Yesterday we went on a road trip and it was not what we expected so on our way back we decided to stop at a local restaurant to have a drink and a tapa. When we picked our seats I said "I'll sit here with the cat". Cat is a magic word to get my daughter's attention lol, so within seconds we were all sitting at the table where a ginger cat was sleeping. He saw me and started to demand attention immediately. He imprinted on all of us and we were in love immediately. He was such a charmer too, he kept milking with his paws without knowing where to place them, then he'd lift his paw halfway to see my reaction and then laid both paws on my lap looking so adorable while enjoying all the love. I felt sad that Mochi won't let us pet him like this, he's missing out.
Of course, my daughter was soon asking us to take the cat, lol. As if you can just take a cat now knowing if he has a home. We told her that it probably belongs to someone and they'd miss him if he would not come home today so we can't do that, on top of that our male has to be castrated first before we add another cat for him to play with. It is the plan to do so but we prefer having a baby kitten this time instead of hoping for the best with an older cat. At least then we have cat love from one of our cats, and with a little hope that Mochi decides he doesn't have to fear us anymore. I'm quite sure at least he will enjoy playing with another of his kind so we'd give him that joy at least.
My daughter decided to sit on the ground to be closer to the cat who didn't stop cuddling for one minute all the time we were there. We all had some kisses and love bites in the pocket (too cute) and then the cat decided it was time to crawl on her lap and be as close to her as possible. It was adorable to see her looking at the cat filled with love and the cat fully enjoying her attention. When she kissed him, I melted :) Both of them were sad to see each other go, he followed us a bit when we stood up.. I hope it's not a stray and belongs to a family who loves him because he deserves that!
Maybe until next time, Ginger!
