Mindset Change | Sketches Of Fashion Template (Front & Back Standing Pose)

When you hear of a fashion illustrator what comes into your mind?
Have you heard of a fashion template or do you know what it is?

A fashion template is a sketch of a fashion model possibly without clothes. The fashion illustrator uses the fashion template to make designs, draw patterns or create new styles for clients. Most times people mistake the fashion template for nudes but the truth is to gain a great design as a pro, the use of fashion template cannot be over ruled.

HOW IS A FASHION TEMPLATE USED
After successfully drafting the model based on the pose, the lines of the model are darkened and all joints are turned to curves. This is placed beneath a plane/fresh sheet. Design of choice is drafted following the sketch reflecting from beneath.

I sketched out 2 poses today which is the front and the back pose of a model.
Thereafter I used the front pose to achieve a style of a dress popularly known as the pencil gown.

FRONT STANDING POSE

As earlier stated, for me to be able to use my template, I need to darken the outline either with a black pen or a pencil. Here I used a pencil.

The outline here is dark enough to be traced out on another plane sheet.
I need the template to draw a pencil dress. Placing a fresh sheet over my template, I trace out to have dress of choice

THE BACK STANDING POSE

I'd use that to sketch a dress of my choice when it becomes necessary.
