The start of August has been marked by a heatwave across the globe. We’re breaking temperature records here too, alongside an extreme drought. It gets hot very quickly in the kitchen when you’re preparing a meal.
What’s more, on Tuesday 11 August, the dentist extracted two of my teeth, which means I have to eat soft, cold food (at room temperature) for the five days following the operation – which brings us to this Sunday evening (tomorrow). I need to give the wounds time to heal and the stitches time to dissolve before I can eat normally again.
Ce début du mois d'août a été marqué par les fortes chaleurs partout dans le monde. Nous battons des records de température chez nous également, avec une sécheresse extrême. Il fait vite chaud dans la cuisine, quand on prépare le repas.
De plus, ce mardi 11 août, la stomatologue m'a retiré 2 dents, ce qui m'oblige à manger de l'alimentation molle et froide (à température ambiante) pendant les 5 jours qui suivent l'opération, ce qui nous amène à ce dimanche soir (demain). Il faut laisser le temps aux plaies de cicatriser et aux fils de se résorber, avant de pouvoir, à nouveau, manger normalement.

I hadn’t bought any noodles before because they were white, but our supermarket has added a wholemeal version to its range and was running a promotion to mark its launch. I gave them a go and they were easy to prepare too! 😋 They turned out all right.
Je n'achetais pas de nouilles jusqu'ici, parce que celles-ci étaient blanches, mais notre supermarché à ajouté une version au blé complet dans son assortiment, et faisait une promotion pour son lancement. J'ai tenté le coup et c'était facile à préparer en plus ! 😋 Le résultat était ok.

Our pizzeria is still closed. We took the opportunity to try out another pizzeria in the town centre.
Ithara fancied a pizza, so he chose the restaurant’s special, with ham, pineapple and cognac.
As for me, I had a veal escalope with a Gorgonzola sauce, served with pasta.
The pizza was lighter than the one we usually have at the other pizzeria; Ithara found it hard to stop at half and take the other half home for our meal the next day.
Notre pizzeria est encore en congé. Nous en avons profité pour découvrir un autre restaurant pizzeria au centre-ville.
Ithara avait envie d'une pizza, il a choisi la pizza du resto, avec jambon, ananas et cognac.
Moi, j'ai pris une escalope de veau avec une sauce au gorgonzola, accompagnée de pâtes.La pizza était plus légère que celle que nous prenons à l'autre pizzeria, Ithara a eu du mal à s'arrêter à la moitié pour emmener l'autre moitié pour notre repas du lendemain.

There are two packets of noodles per pack, so I made another batch, varying the preparation.

A new sauce has appeared in the supermarket’s range, and it’s on offer to mark its launch. It’s a tomato-based sauce with roasted vegetables. You could say it’s somewhere between piperade and ratatouille. It’s tasty – I’d definitely recommend it.
Served with brown rice to soak up the sauce and do our health a favour.
Une nouvelle sauce est apparue dans l'assortiment du supermarché, en promo également pour le lancement. Une sauce tomatée, avec des légumes grillés. On pourrait la situer entre la piperade et la ratatouille. Elle est bonne, je valide.
Avec du riz complet pour éponger la sauce et faire du bien à notre santé.

It’s the 11th, and I’m having two teeth removed at 2 pm. So I’ve already prepared a lunch of soft-to-chew foods. That way, the next day, I’ll just have to reheat the leftover mince .. in case I’m not feeling up to it, it’ll make things easier for me.
Nous sommes le 11, on me retire les 2 dents à 14h. J'ai donc déjà préparé un repas d'aliments faciles à mâcher à midi. Ainsi, le lendemain, je n'aurais qu'à réchauffer le reste du hachis, au cas où je ne serais pas en forme, ça me facilitera la tâche.

The extractions went well; it was all sorted in a quarter of an hour. I had stitches with self-dissolving thread.
So I reheated the rest of yesterday’s lunch and swapped the pasta for carrot stoemp. (stoemp = mashed potato with vegetables)
I just had to wait for it all to cool down enough to eat it.
Les extractions se sont bien passées, en 1/4h, c'était réglé. Points de suture avec du fil auto-résorbable.
J'ai donc réchauffé le reste du repas de hier midi et j'ai remplacé les pâtes par du stoemp aux carottes. (stoemp = purée de pdt aux légumes)
J'ai juste dû attendre que tout refroidisse suffisamment pour le manger.

We’re sticking with the same sort of meal with this corned beef, served with the last of the carrot stoemp.

There wasn’t much corned beef left, but as it was hot, I wasn’t very hungry.
As I couldn’t eat an apple just yet at snack time, I decided to serve the dish with some apple purée. I’d run out of stoemp, so I just had some plain mashed potato instead.
Il ne restait pas beaucoup de corned beef, mais comme il faisait chaud, j'avais moins faim.
Ne pouvant pas mordre dans une pomme, pour le moment à l'heure du goûter, j'ai opté pour accompagner le plat d'une mousseline de pommes. Il ne me restait plus de stoemp, alors, j'ai pris de la simple purée.

We don’t eat salmon and lentils often enough… this was the perfect opportunity, as you don’t have to chew the fish much.
Nous ne mangeons pas assez souvent de saumon et de lentilles .. c'était l'occasion, puisqu'il ne faut pas mordre beaucoup sur du poisson.
I can’t wait for Monday, so I can eat normally again, whilst still being careful at the start of the week… it would be a shame to hurt myself and have to go back to the stomatologist or dentist.
The heatwave isn’t over yet, although this week should bring us a bit of a break, and perhaps even some rain. It won’t be heavy rain, but it’s better than nothing, and it should help the fire brigade tackle the major wildfires currently raging.

Vivement lundi, que je puisse à nouveau manger normalement, tout en faisant encore attention en début de semaine .. ce serait dommage de me blesser et de devoir retourner chez la stomatologue ou la dentiste.
Les fortes chaleurs ne sont pas finies, même si cette semaine devrait nous apporter un peu de répit, voire même de la pluie. Ce ne seront pas de grosses pluies, mais ce sera toujours ça de pris et cela devrait aider les pompiers à lutter contre les gros incendies en cours.
