Hello everyone , sawadikap !!
How are you? Wishing you a wonderful day—one that’s even better than yesterday. May everything you do and work on go smoothly and bring you closer to your goals.
After spending a week in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, my wife and I continued our journey to Bangkok, Thailand. Yesterday, I shared some street photography from Chinatown, and I hope you enjoyed that series.
Today, I’d like to share one of my favorite foods from our time in Thailand. But before that, just a quick disclaimer—we're not currently in Thailand. This was an experience my wife and I had about a month ago during her days off, while we were exploring a few ASEAN countries together.
After being stranded at Ho Chi Minh Airport for a few hours, we only had some light snacks during our flight. We arrived at the airport as early as possible because we heard that immigration clearance and baggage check-in could take hours. But to our surprise, the queue wasn’t that long while we were there—maybe we just got lucky that day.
Now, about the in-flight snacks—they were surprisingly expensive. A 50-gram pack cost $4, and total of 2 packs of snacks came to $8. Just to put it in perspective, a full meal in Vietnam (which I shared in a previous post) also cost around $7! But I guess that’s just the price you pay for “luxury” food while flying thousands of feet above the ground.
Yeah, I can officially say—welcome to Thailand! The airport was massive; it took us about 15 minutes just to walk to the immigration gate.
We got stuck at immigration because we hadn’t filled out Thailand’s new Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), which was introduced in recent months. I honestly thought we would just fill in the form manually like I did a few years back.
The whole process was a bit frustrating, especially because I was already feeling super hungry at the time.
I felt a bit relieved after finally passing through immigration. We decided to take the MRT to our accommodation for the next few days, since Grab was quite expensive at that time. It took us around 40 minutes to reach the nearest MRT station to our place.
But guess what—after reaching the station, we still had to walk another 10 minutes! And to make things worse, it was super crowded because office hours had just ended. OMG, I was so hungry, and on top of that, I had to drag our huge luggage through the busy streets.
Luckily, we arrived at our destination faster than I expected. Honestly, if we had taken Grab during peak hours, I think we would've arrived even later.
Sorry no photo at this time because i was saving my phone battery for the GPS .
I was glad to find a few home-style restaurants near our place. We decided to try the nearest one, just a 3-minute walk from our hotel. At first glance, it looked a bit dim and uninviting—not the kind of place that grabs your attention.
But honestly, I didn’t care. I was way too hungry to be picky at that point.
Let's go for the menu !!
After making our order , im patiently waiting . This is how the kitchen look like :
The view to the outside :
This is pad kra pao . I not just cheap but very delicious . The mince meat can be pork and chicken that being stir fry with holy basil .
My wife ordered her favorite—seafood tom yum—and the best part? I got to steal a few spoonfuls from her bowl! So far, this has been my favorite dish in Thailand. It was cheap, flavorful, and absolutely delicious.
There were other food options too, but this one was definitely the most affordable. Our entire meal cost around $4, and they even served free iced water.
Anyway, I’m starting to feel hungry just writing about this—might head out soon to grab something to eat!
Thanks again for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed this little travel and food story. Feel free to share your favorite dish in the comments—I’d love to know what you enjoy too. See you in tomorrow’s post. Take care!
