Tranquility in the Downpour...

The rainy season has started in the Philippines. I'm not sure if it's officially announced or not, but it has been raining for the past few days. Thus explains my catching a cold.

When the season transitions from hot to cold or vice versa, I often get sick. It started with a sore throat, then colds, fever and finally cough. I still have a cough, but it's tolerable, so I could get back to work from yesterday.

I don't dislike the rain, though. Maybe because I work from home and I don't have to go out... but when I was a student or when I was working outside, it was really a hassle when it rained.

Commuting was hellish, my white nursing uniform was in danger (hahaha), and it's awfully humid inside the jeepney because they have to cover the windows. I'm just glad I don't have to experience that anymore. Well, there are buses with A/C now, so students and workers are lucky! :)

Anyway, as I was waiting for my students tonight, it started raining heavily again... and suddenly, I came up with something. Let me share my poem below.

Tranquility in the Downpour

An invisible roar tickles my ear
Rhythmic drops of water, I hear
The cool breeze sends chills down my spine
Feeling tipsy, as if I sipped fine wine

An immense shift in intensity, I feel
This passion makes my heart unseal
Like cats and dogs, they fall from the sky
Oddly soothing; though I'm not sure why

I used to dread those flashing lights
And the sound that crashed with all its might
The earth trembles beneath my feet
Increasing the pace of my heartbeat

But now, my feelings have somehow changed
The dread, the fear; voluntarily estranged
The rain now soothes me from deep within
Its warmth, a whisper upon my skin

@tegoshei

The rain is quite inspiring. There are a lot of things we could write about it, and it makes us feel a variety of emotions.

I love the rain now... but since I live in the Philippines, there's this worry of suddenly losing our internet connection and/or electricity every time it pours. It's among the downsides of working from home. hahaha Oh well, let's just focus on its perks, shall we?

Anyway, I took some more photos earlier to match my poem, so let me share the others below.

I still have some classes left for tonight, so I'll end this post here. Stay safe and dry this rainy season! See you around and have a good one! (^^,)/

I used to feel the same way about rain, scared of thunder and annoyed by wet shoes, but over time, it became something I look forward to. Your poem captured that shift so beautifully. And yes, losing internet during heavy rain is a very Filipino thing!

And yeah... one of the annoying things about heavy rain. XD

Oh yeah, it's raining here too for weeks now. Minsan naman umaaraw but kapag gabi umuulan ulit. I like it coz wala ng init at pawis. Ako naman tapos na sa lagnat, though I still have a cough. We need to get better na soonest, full recovery I mean 🫠

Rainy days can really bring discomfort and hassle especially when we need to go out and commute to places. It is a lovely poem. The rain brought out the creativity in you. I somehow feel the tranquility when it rains. But, sometimes laziness creeps in too when it rains.😊
