Power Outage + Coconut + Landlady & Friends

Recently, there have been rotational power outages in my area. At first, it was just for an hour, a few times a week. However, today, the power outage lasted for 2 hours. In addition, the air quality isn't very good because of the haze from the wildfire in Indonesia.

Good thing, though, it was windy in my area, so it's much clearer than in the city. Due to the haze and unhealthy air, classes were cancelled. Our landlady is an elementary school teacher, and since classes were cancelled, she and her fellow teachers decided to come over to eat some coconuts.

She told us they were coming in the afternoon, so we called one of our neighbors who usually climbs and harvests coconuts for us. We had them harvested in the morning.

They look tiny, but they actually have a lot of coconut water and nice coconut meat. My family and I are allowed to harvest anytime we want, so we're really grateful to our landlady for it.

We tried some during lunch... This is fresh coconut water and meat. We just chilled it for a bit and drank it as it is. It's super sweet and refreshing. We enjoyed having it at lunch.

At around 4 PM, the power outage started... we went out for some air (good thing it was windy and comfy). Then, our landlady arrived with her friends. We transferred the coconuts in the garden and set up some tables.

Our neighbor, James, helped opening the coconut alongside Daryl, another teenage neighbor. The visitors were teachers, so they knew them, too.

Our landlady is the one wearing a black floral blouse and white pants. They all enjoyed their coconut treat in the garden. She also bought us some snacks, and we were also able to have more coconut as well.

We talked and bonded for a while, and she explored the garden. She was very happy with the changes we made and was proud to tell her friends about us.

Before we moved here, the house was abandoned, so the fruit trees weren't taken care of properly... In addition, people would just take from the property, so she and her family (the real owners) couldn't harvest anything.

Now, she's happy because we've been taking care of the place; that's why she allows us to harvest anytime we want and to make changes around the place. She's also able to get fruit from the trees she planted years ago.

Before they went home, we gave her the soursop we harvested this morning, because we had already ate last time... and it's actually her first time tasting it. She planted it years ago, but they moved to their current house... and the tree didn't really bear fruit until recently, when we started maintaining the garden.

After they went home, we stayed outside the store with Manang Lourdes (the neighbor who owns a nice vegetable garden and James' grandma). We talked and had fun... We told her that our landlady said she can have coconuts whenever she wants, too. She used to be the place's caretaker.

Then at around 6 PM, the electricity finally came back!!! Whew!!! I wonder how long this rotational power outage will last. It's affecting my work, to be honest. XD
