ANNUAL EVENT IN MY VILLAGE

Hello everyone, how are you? Today the village is holding a shadow puppet show. Let me share a little story about my village tradition.

In my village, shadow puppets are not just a show but have become an obligation that must be held every year. We have carried out this obligation from the past until now and will continue to preserve it for our children and grandchildren.

The cost of the shadow puppet show, which reaches tens of millions of rupiah, is borne together from community contributions. Even though it is our obligation, we are happy to provide a charismatic artistic performance.

The story and language in wayang kulit use refined palace Javanese, only a few scenes sometimes use Kromo Javanese or everyday Javanese such as in the jokes or humor performed by Punakawan (Semar, Gareng, Bagong and Petruk) and in limbukkan or Javanese songs performed by the characters. by sinden.

The musical instruments in wayang are called gamelan, all the instruments are made of brass although there are some shadow puppet performances that use guitars, pianos and drumbands but that is only a complement.

The first form of wayang kulit was made by Sunan Kalijaga, he was a propagator of Islam who at that time, Javanese people still adhered to Hinduism and Buddhism and ancient Javanese beliefs.

Kanjeng Sunan Kalijaga saw Javanese people who liked wayang art, but the previous wayang was not like this but more resembled the original form. And the teachings of Islam prohibit everything that humans make from resembling HIS GOD'S creation.

Shadow puppet performances in my village are a requirement for a village ritual called Mertabumi or earth alms. This show must be shadow puppets and cannot be replaced with other shows, even during the Covid period my village still holds it.

The shadow puppet show is divided into two parts, namely the daytime and nighttime performances. The shadow puppet narrative during the day is only part of the standard puppet show because the time is short plus it is cut short for a prayer event asking for safety and blessings from Allah SWT.

The residents were very enthusiastic about attending it by bringing simple food to eat alone, it tastes better than eating together at home.

A container for carrying food made of bamboo called Tenong. Tenong is only available in traditional markets so it is impossible to find it in furniture stores if you look for it.

As an Indonesian citizen who loves its culture, I am willing to go home for this special event, it feels like a great loss if I don't come to eat with food that has been prayed for and blessed by our ancestors.

Art is the identity of a nation and thank you all, I hope you are entertained by my story.
