Scrolling through my phone gallery, I came across a photo I had taken of a lady who was selling a street food (we call it Abacha) to me after over an hour of searching for who sells the meal around. The photo reminded me how happy I was when the woman passed by at that time.
Hawking is one business in my country, Nigeria and other African countries that have been in style for as long as it started and as long as I remember. Other countries call it street foods selling, but over there, the street sellers mostly do have small kiosks or shops to sell their products.
Here in Nigeria, we have a combination of both. Those selling in small kiosks or shops and a lot of them selling their products by walking about in different streets searching for customers. It's only sad that children are allowed to do this business which have caused dangers on them.
If we leave out the downsides of hawking in my country, the one style that this business will always be appreciated for is, the availability of products it brings to customers even when they are not looking. I think there are less people hawking about unlike time past but it's still there.
I know of people who could get all they want from food items to other products just by sitting outside to watch out for hawkers passing by. I remember how surprised I was to see a woman passing by selling so many things at a time, she had a whole kiosk moving about by the roadside.
There are a variety of goods that these hawkers can bring to your doorsteps and still sell at good prices which when compared to visiting the market for the same goods, you'd appreciate them for the services. It's amazing how making your products available can boost faster sales.
I can't tell how more risky, stressful and dangerous this business is as I've never had to hawk to make my products available but I can understand to an extent how peaceful it is to have customers come find you at your shop and you get good profits for just having the products.
While hawking has made product selling and advertising business strive, having your own shop to sell them and marketing it in other ways rather than hawking is better. But this is not me downgrading the hawking business, it's actually quite the opposite. I really appreciate these hawkers for making products more available.
It's not a business for many but the ones who do it, I see a whole definition of resilience in them. They have to deal with thieves, low profits, heat in the sun and cold in the rain while they go about everyday to have their products sold. Some buyers even prefer some of these hawkers for long term patronage, to show their importance.

Yeah, some countries call them that. It's really hard being one which makes it quite admirable. Every legal and good business should be admirable when done well.
Yes... Ooh... But is not really easy to hawk, because for me it fall out of proper way of running business, but it pays a lot for those who really know how to do it, well done for this .
Yeah, it's not something I'll advice anyone to do but people are doing well with it.
