Our Local Elementary School Garden...

Our landlady is an elementary school teacher who's in charge of their school's garden. She knows that my family is into gardening since we have been planting some stuff around the house. She gave us the freedom to do so, and even to harvest fruits from the fruit trees that are growing around. She invited my mom and me to visit the school's garden. She's giving out some plants because they're planning to plant new stuff there, and she's excited to give us a tour as well.

The elementary school is only around 15 minutes away from our house on foot. So, my mom and I decided to go there and meet up with her. It's a holiday, so there weren't any students. It's one of the reasons she invited us on this day.

This is the entrance to their garden. Gulayan sa Paaralan means Vegetable Garden in School or School Vegetable Garden.

The school garden is quite large, and she and the students, well, mostly the students' mothers, take care or maintain the place. Not all kids are keen on gardening, but she mentioned that there were some who are showing interest in it. <br

In the school garden, they have several plant boxes that were beautifully painted. And they planted several types of vegetables there, for example, eggplant, okra, malabar spinach, tomatoes, bell peppers, chilis, and so on.

Then, at the back, there were some vines like string beans and cucumbers. And in the farther back, they also planted some medicinal plants like oregano, lemongrass, and aloe vera, among others.

On the other side of the garden, several Philippine lime trees were bearing lots of fruit. Our landlady told us to take some with us, so I harvested some to take home. We can make some drinks out of this, though it's more sour than lemons. However, it's really refreshing, especially on a cold summer day. And sometimes, we also drink a hot version, especially when we're sick, like when we caught a cold, since it's rich in Vitamin C.

Since we're already there, we decided to help out with watering the plants. It was so funny because she has been using the water hose without any nozzle. Actually, one of the parents gave her a hose nozzle, but she didn't know how to attach it, so I volunteered to help her with it.

She said watering the plants would be more fun now, and perhaps her students would be taking turns more because they can now adjust the water pressure.

Before I attached the nozzle, I just did this to water the plants all the way back.

This one here is a male papaya tree. The flowers are in clusters. Sadly, this won't bear any fruit, so she's thinking of getting rid of this tree. The flowers were pretty, though.

Then, on these recycled water bottles that they used as plant pots, they are growing some ginger. They also have turmeric, and our landlord gave us some, so we can plant it at home.

On the other side, there were also some fruit-bearing trees like a guava tree and a jackfruit tree. It was a fun experience. I hope the kids enjoy gardening as well.

We were able to harvest some vegetables and get some stuff to plant in the garden at home. After leaving the school, she took us to her husband's aunt's place because she has a beautiful garden as well. I'll be sharing about that place next time. I hope you enjoyed this post! See you around! (^^,)/
