The importance of green manures

There are many ways to fertilize a garden, from classic compost to manure or guano. But one of the simplest and most useful ways to fertilize, especially if you have enough land, is green fertilization. This is a type of fertilization that works very well in large areas or good-sized gardens.

Green fertilization consists of sowing a type of plant, normally legumes, that fix nitrogen in the soil and then cutting them and burying their aerial part. This should be done to prevent the plants from flowering and losing their nutritional properties for the garden.

You can start sowing green fertilizers at the beginning of autumn. My favorite is forage beans, which produce a large amount of leaves up to 2 meters high and are then easy to cut and incorporate into the garden to nourish the next crops. We will do this between January and February so we can incorporate a large amount of organic matter into the soil.

Thank you very much for supporting my blog and I look forward to your comments.!
