Garden pests, snails or slugs.

Pests are a problem for the horticulturist, but they are part of nature and we must learn to live with them. It is a mistake to try to eliminate them completely with products that in the long term will be much more harmful to us, causing serious illnesses. In this series of articles I will talk about how to deal with these small, undesirable living beings.

There are many pests in the garden and without a doubt one of the most common are snails and slugs. They can be a problem especially if you live in a very humid climate. In dry climates they hardly cause any problems.
However, they are not a very problematic pest and have an easy solution. Our main allies will be the birds, who love these small animals. But there are also many other methods to fight them.
But first of all, we must say that we do not have to exterminate them, we can plant a little more than we need and let them live with us. This is what I do and with my chard I plant a lot and neither the snails nor my family are able to finish them all.

The infallible method to control snail or slug populations is to collect them manually and give them to the chickens, they love them. Another method is to put beer in small containers and cover them with a tile or stone. They will be attracted and fall into the traps.
If we want to protect a particular plant, we can also regularly sprinkle ashes or coffee grounds around it. This will prevent snails from physically approaching it.
